Matt O from Toronto, Ontario, Canada writes: Why oh why has our national soccer program been such a mess for so long? We were such good hosts of the under-21s, but our team was a mismanaged, misbehaving embarassment.
Ah well, at least Spain got its groove back this year.- Posted 11/10/08 at 1:06 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Double Money from Canada writes: Mitchell did not get the results as the coach so he has to take the fall. I lay a huge part of the blame at DD's team mate Onstad for letting in that houseleague error from a corner that turned a win against Jamaica into only one point at home.

A Banana from Canada writes: For all those people who threw Jim Brennan under the bus, did you really think the rest of the team thought anything different?
We have an amateur coaching professionals, of course they hate it! Dale Mitchell is not qualified to coach. Plain and simple.
His work only serves to hurt the team.- Posted 11/10/08 at 9:32 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Canada Needs National Soccer League Senior and Junior from Canada writes: As far as Holger Osieck is concerned,he already was here once and said that he would never come back at that time as Canadian soccer as a nightmare? ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// [edit] Managerial career After finishing his playing career in Canada, Osieck became an assistant coach to Franz Beckenbauer for the Germany national football team that won the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He then managed VfL Bochum (Germany), Fenerbahçe S.K. (Turkey), Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) and Kocaelispor (Turkey) before he landed the job of the manager of Canada national football team in 1999. Under Osieck, Canada won the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, earning the nickname "Holger's Heroes," a reference to the television show Hogan's Heroes. He worked for FIFA between 2004 and 2006 as chief of their technical department. In 2007, he again became the manager of Urawa and led the club to win the 2007 AFC Champions League. However, he was fired by Urawa on March 16, 2008, after a poor start to the 2008 season. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I just hope that Mitchell will be gone as of Sunday,tomorrow.That guy would kill a spirit in anything and anyone with his incompetance and personality. I think for now,they should give the Team back to Stephen Hart and Ray Clark on the interim bases and search for a permanent solution slowly,as now we have another 4 years to "think about" it,sort of speak.

greg thompson from cranbrook, Canada writes: canada's chance ended the minute mitchell picked onstad to start. there is a reason he was always the backup for years. he just has a habit of giving up soft goals regularly. we all know the minute that goal went in against jamiaca. the team lost all the confidence they had after playing Brazil. Also losing redzinski. Then mitchell changed the game plan that was working. Clearly creative soccer and tactics are not mitchell strength. if this group of players can't qualify . who knows if canada ever will again. mexico and usa both weaker then they have been recently. the chance was there sadly now it is gone. unless a miracle happens.

S Balderick from Canada writes: Mitchell's comments are rather cocky for a guy who hasn't won a single game as coach.

Armini Cunctator from Canada writes: Mitchell has to go after the U-21 and awful tactical performances in winnable home games, but he isn't the problem. A fish rots from the head. If indeed the CSA management canvassed players, it is a brutal example of their incompetence - when you are asking the players, you already have the answer, and you are undercutting him by doing it.

Dave Hunt from Canada writes: Only in Canada can a coach become the head coach of the national team after a pathetic display coaching the U-20 team.

Canada Needs National Soccer League Senior and Junior from Canada writes: Obviously,Mr. Mitchell has to resign....
However,the CSA and the Board of Directors have to be also held responsible...
The Board and the "provincial reps",amatures are actually to be blamed for all this....{they hired Mitchell}
It is the same analogy as if the Canadian Hockey national team was ran by the "double minus BB" rec hockey teams officials....- Posted 12/10/08 at 4:22 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
