WTF wereyouthinking from Calgary, Canada writes: Browner is a disgrace to the league. Not only was he no yards in the fourth, but he laid a helmet-helmet hit on the punt returner. Yeah Browner, everyone believes you when you said you touched the ball despite what the officials and the replays showed. Simple fact is that the Stamps got OWNED AGAIN.
Note to Hank-try hanging on to the ball next time you get thrown to the turf like a sack of potatoes, then maybe you won't see Jones doing a TD dance in your own endzone. It'll be a good rematch, what with the sea of green dominating McMahon Stadium, as usual. Just another home game for the Riders.- Posted 07/10/08 at 12:20 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Ron White from Calgary, Canada writes: The officials got the call right. Regardless of whether the ball was touched, the player was out of bounds. I am disappointed in the players and coach who did this; the fines are correct. Smarten up guys. Don't blame the refs for your loss, you own the loss yourselves; I watched the game.

Twitchy Libertarian from Calgary, Canada writes: Stamps did not play well enough to win against a weak team, plain and simple. Disappointing sure, but keep it on the field. The fines are warranted - suck it up and take it to the field on Thanksgiving.
We don't want to sink to the level of those throwing beer cans at the opposition (not mentioning any particular team's fans).- Posted 07/10/08 at 1:50 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Reality Check from Edmonton, Canada writes: Working Stiff , You sound like some easterner who has moved West to get a descent paying job. You yak, and yak about what you do not understand. Firstly, the players and coach are not "Calgarians" (sp?), so your comments just make you look like a bigot. Secondly, if you don't like it out West, please get back in your skate-board of a car and GO HOME!!! Your departure will NOT be missed and it will be safer to drive on the streets!!!

Bill Smith from Sk, Canada writes: Twit-chy - weak team? 19 players on the injured list and your stronger team still lost? What are you thinking? You've got a good team and the Riders also have a great team. They've played pretty even up and it'll be a great game again on Monday!
A couple of idiotic fans throwing beer cans is not representaive of all the Rider faithful just as the actions of a couple of Stamp's players is not representative of them all although this isn't the first time that Stampeder players have publicly wimpered about the preceived wrongs against them.- Posted 07/10/08 at 3:24 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Twitchy Libertarian from Calgary, Canada writes: Bill, all I meant was that Sask wasn't as good as they were earlier; not claiming the Stamps were good either - can't blame the refs, the better team won. Should be good a good one Monday! I hope the Rider faithful aren't represented by the likes of WTF either.

Ziad Fazel from Calgary, Canada writes: Stamps and the Refs need a Kumbaya. I hope Browner, and more importantly, assistant coach Brown, take the benefit of a few days away from the conflict and apologize to the ref for what they did.
Some fans on the Globe comments need to dial it back as well. I will be taking my young daughter to the game, and Rider/Stamps games have too many people taking liberties with language, aggressive behaviour and alcohol. I sometimes fake trash-talk here in what I hope is shared fun, but try not to take (or make) anything personal.
Let's all enjoy awesome football together - it has been a long time since both our teams were at the top of the league, and exquisite timing to have a home-and-home.- Posted 07/10/08 at 5:34 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Well, Wayne... if you are willing to let such moronic comments just to roll off your back...
As for me, when someone says that the actions of people who are not even from Alberta (not sure about the ref) are, "Typical red neck behaviour", I take offence. If you think that someone born and raised here would spout such narrow minded thoughts.... Well, I would bet you that they are not from around these here parts...- Posted 07/10/08 at 9:10 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

I complimented Rider fans for the noise they made while Calgary's offence was on the field, frustrating the Stamps' ability to react to different blitz formations. I further complimented Rider fans by saying the Stamps would need to solve that problem at home at McMahon too, because the Green Horde would be as noisy in our home stadium.
When I joked that McMahon stadium could keep the rabble down by putting saltpetre in the beer served to fans in Green, I was talking about the common form of saltpetre = sodium nitrate, a benign substance mistakenly hoped to cause impotence in soldiers. I suspected anyone who has been or known someone in the army during Korea or Vietnam would know what I am talking about. My joke was about spiking the beer for Rider fans with something that would temporarily induce impotence, to keep the rabble down. Tee Hee. Nyuk Nyuk.
You went to some unusual chemical formulation which is also referred to as saltpetre, potassium nitrate, and accused me of wanting to poison Rider fans with it.
I am trying to have share my humour and love for the game with fellow CFL fans. You're still bringing up red herrings from other posts to try and spoil my fun at least, and if you don't stop, you will lose the respect and fun that I share with so many other people here.- Posted 07/10/08 at 9:25 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Well said Ziad--Very Nice
Everybody with Viagra for brains knows about that saltpetre (I spell it Salt Peter). That's why in another life, when I was SG12427 L/Cpl Stokes (on the M/G) used to try to shoot my own food or dig some oysters. Bark off the trees doesn't hurt your manhood either. Army food really is BAD for a MAN (and his girl-friend too).
Have fun at the game with your daughter Ziad.
And once again--a most polite posting--Thank You.

Ziad Fazel from Calgary, Canada writes: Thanks, Hap. Maybe Miller was just jealous of that secret love note from Marj Delahunty, Canada's sexiest journalist.
I felt like a rambunctious Joe Clark when I saw the comment from "mary walsh with the ...", and may need some saltpetre myself.
Your Lions just might have a chance at first if the Riders and Stamps keep playing each other. Amazing games, which I hope are free of injury this weekend. Would like to see all the teams hit the playoffs in full stride.- Posted 08/10/08 at 11:52 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Reality Check from Edmonton, Canada writes: Ya know... I have watched the Stamps for years, being an Esks fan it is inevitable that you watch the ‘enemy’. However, the Stamps have been far too cocky for far too long. The touchdown dances and the uber-posing by players that have been nothing but choke artists since Flutie departed (The fluke Crandle year being just that) is wearing thin. Old coach Hue Campbell said it best when he told young receivers, “when you score a touchdown, act like you have been there before..” Same goes for Rider nation… the uber-posing is wearing thin… You rant about being the best fans in the league… yet your history is littered with shameful acts by your fans. Yes, you stipulate that it is only a “minority” yet the league is swamped with ‘Rider Pride’ incidents at every stadium. It is time to grow up folks…. Cheer your team on… but if you need to use air horns or mechanical devices to do so… your fans are losers… I throw down this gauntlet… have ALL teams BAN air horns, and all mechanical noise making devices… Here in Edmonton, we make noise by fan participation ( and we have a very open stadium with a track between the stands and the field), 40,000 plus voices is enough… So, you Calgary/Bomber/Rider fans, leave your air horns at home… use your lungs to cheer…
