OTTAWA The Laval Rouge et Or maintained their lead atop the Canadian university football rankings, with the Queen's Golden Gaels and Saint Mary's Huskies remaining second and third, respectively.
Laval (5-0) received all 11 first-place votes for the fifth week in a row following a 67-7 rout of the McGill Redmen on Friday night. It was the largest offensive output for the five-time defending Quebec conference champions since destroying Sherbrooke 72-14 on Nov. 5, 2005.
The Rouge et Or, who have been ranked No. 1 in 45 of the past 46 weekly polls, are off to a 5-0 start for the fifth year in a row.
Queen's (6-0) and Saint Mary's (5-0) are also on track for undefeated seasons following weekend victories. The Golden Gaels annihilated the winless York Lions 80-0, while the Huskies rallied from a 23-point deficit to beat St.FX 32-26.
Saskatchewan (4-1) remained fourth in the rankings following a 37-3 win over UBC. Western (5-1) stayed fifth after trouncing Windsor 58-5.
Calgary (3-2), Concordia (3-2), Simon Fraser (4-2), Sherbrooke (4-1) and Laurier (4-2) rounded out the top 10.
