  2. Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: Is this 'story' on a never-ending loop - Is it true suspects under interrogation get to choose between waterboarding or listening to Sundin stories as the least-worst option.
  3. Allan Martel from Canada writes: Leafs will not be rushed into a playoff berth.
  4. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Last night they interviewed Cujo at the Blue Jay game.

When asked about Mats.... Cujo said that he thought the longer Sundin took to decide... the more likely it was that he would return to the Leafs.

    Cheers
  5. Andrei Popov from NYC, United States writes: Stay home and leave us alone !!!
  6. Jim Sentance from Charlottetown, Canada writes: Hopefully by the time he decides no-one will have any cap room left to pay him with and he can take this tired act back to Sweden.
  7. Canada First from Canada writes:

I hope he goes back to the Leafs but, if he doesn't, I hope he plays anywhere else before retiring. He was playing fantastic hockey last year and certainly looked like he had plenty of gas in the tank. I want to see more of him. I can't end like this!

All the best to him, wherever he lands.
  8. R. Carriere from Maritimes, Canada writes:

Scot: Let's bet a drink or a few on this one:

My call; Mats will come back in January-play 35 games to get in playoff form. He will bypass the Leafs. Leaf fans will be into the new team. Right Scot?

He gets 3-4 million for more toys and is an easier Cap hit for any team going for it-and the team doesn't have to give ANY compensation.

He "appears" to be a competitor. He lets the season start-sees how the dust falls-the real competitors for the Cup-Leaf fans start to "forget" and will "forgive."

If he decides to scoot to a team that really has a chance in January, Politics and image at play here (see Ray Bourke..Bruins icon!)

    No brainer ( see Pronger...)

If I am wrong-major Mea Culpa to follow!

That said SCOT, if he went back to the Leafs, he would hurt them more than help them. He would take precious minutes in regular and PP time, and would make them finish 20th instead of 28th-30th.

  9. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: Sundin says he won't be rushed. Wow, is that the understatement of the century.....haaa haaaa haaaa.......go home Matts and buy a cheese factory or something.
  10. Wanda Fyooka from Vancouver, Canada writes: Sounds like Mats has lost the fire in the belly. Time to move on Mike Gillis!
  11. Leafs fan from Ottawa, Canada writes: I agree with Wanda... even if Mats finally decides to come back, how much can his heart really be in it if he needs this long to decide if he wants to play or not....

Also, I don't agree with Canada First that Mats looked like he had "plenty of gas in the tank." I found his skating to be a bit sluggish to be honest, but his strengths (face-offs, toughness behind the net, and hard shot) overshadowed this.

Mats has done so much for this club and I thoroughly respect him as a player and leader, but my "preferred rebuild" of our beloved Leafs does not include him.
  12. Patricia Timms from Canada writes: Thanks to David Shoalts.
Thanks so much for that great Matts article.
I've been sitting on Pins and Needles all day, since I read it.
What with all those exciting tennis matches and now the Matts saga too.
    Where's my Heart Pills?
  13. Tippy Antropov from Toronto, Canada writes: This cat's more relaxed than Perry Como...
  14. Jimmee's Place from Canada writes: Oh the pressure to be a superstar in the NHL, big decisions... should I stay or should I go with my collective Leaf pay of 74 plus mil and take the money back home, or one of my homes...

For me, my employer tells me when to retire, or my government or "The Boss" (wifey)

C'mon Mats, lets get with the real world and make up that Swedish mind of yours.

I bet he shows up at the Leaf camp though.
  15. Link Hogbrow from Canada writes:
He signed on with Poker stars.

    He's going to retire.

And good for him. He owes nothing and has contributed much.
  16. Midtown Bob from Toronto, Canada writes: Hey Mats, if you aren't busy playing pro hockey this year, would you like to play shinny with the boys Thursday nights at an arena in Toronto tba?

Beers and pizza delivered to the dressing room after every game!
  17. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Link Hogbrow.... You may be correct

First tournament is September 10th in Barcelona.

    Six tournaments left in 2008

My guess would be that if he does well and it satisfies his competitive edge.... he retires.

Of course if he is embarrassed at the table.... you may see him back on skates a lot earlier.

    Cheers
  18. Link Hogbrow from Canada writes:
Its not for the money. Anything he wins goes to charity. Typical Matts ....

It to get away from hockey. He's had enough.

Well Rob.. with this Pokerstars thing... you may well be correct.

Not so sure on the last part though. I figure if he played with the Leafs (from the start of the season) they would actually make the playoffs.

btw... did u get my email?

    Cheers

  20. D JL from Canada writes: Canucks should withdraw their offer! Didn't like it in the first place.

League needs a rule on players returning to team half way through the season. I think there should be a penalty to the salary cap.
  21. Paul Bayer from Parksville, Canada writes: Canucks should throw $15 mill/year at him ..... $10 mill wasn't enough to twist his arm ... Sundin is taking so long because he is not 100% healthy...
  22. Patricia Timms from Canada writes: Matts play POKER??
He thinks riding an Inside Straight is catching the Ferry over to Denmark.
  23. Rob C from Canada writes: RM From Regina - Cheese factory? Should he go home to Sweden or Switzerland? Or are the the same place?
  24. Daniel Plainview from Canada writes: A hand of poker with Sundin must take weeks to play.
  25. Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Mats is playing poker. Mats is having fun. Mats is enjoying his summer. Good for Mats. If he comes back to play hockey, he'll do it because he wants to, and that will be good news for whoever he plays for. Now, on the other hand, it would be good if the MopN'Pail can find something else to write about.
  26. Howard Roark from Whitby, Canada writes: Mats, Mats, Mats, Leafs, Leafs, Leafs. Boring.

Mats never had the fire to win, except for the odd game. He is a slightly better than average player who thinks he is a superstar. Nothing more. I hope that either he retires or scores a goal for another team that knocks the Leafs out of playoffs again.

But I would be happier if we didn't have to listen to this pathetic saga any longer.
  27. Howard Young from Canada writes: Daniel Plainview from Canada writes: A hand of poker with Sundin must take weeks to play.

    Hah, I like that one.
  28. Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: We read about Mats playing poker for charity, but the Gripe N' Wail ignores it. Instead we get existential chatter like "Sundin Struggling With Decision...", "Won't Be Rushed..." Poppycock in lieu of news and insights we need to know. More importantly, the G&M is thoroughly remiss for not covering his tiddlywinks match with Madonna. What's sports journalism coming to?
