  1. steve allan from Canada writes: A sure sign that your franchise has never accomplished anything - you have two jersey numbers retired and neither was worn by anything even remotely close to HoF material.
  2. dj mk from vancouver, Canada writes: i have to admit, i have a serious man crush on trev.

    trevor, please run for mayor

To paraphrase new GM Mike Gillis when questioned about his lack of managerial experience and his plans for the franchise:
Whatever the plan was for the past 38 years, it has not worked.
  4. Mr. Callaghan from Canada writes: While he has no doubt had a good career, Trevor Linden tarnished his rep by going behind the back of the NHLPA and pushed for a salary cap. This was after he made many millions for years under the free-market system. He is a weasel and shafted the younger players.
  5. tim bulger from ?, Canada writes: is this the same Trevor Linden as the one that does races mountain bike? I didn't know he also played hockey!
  6. Ripley Bogle from Vancouver, Canada writes: Of course you're going to have the odd twit posting here things like Trevor's "not even remotely close to HOF material." Not even remotely close, hey? No, that would be you, knuckle-dragger.

Trevor may not make it to the HOF- but he still played the game with passion and integrity, and he is an inspiration to the few players out there who actually care about the game and its fans.

Thanks for all the memories, Trev. You may not have won the cup as a player, but hopefully you'll hoist it one day, maybe even here in Vancouver, as a coach or general manager.
  7. Sam Johnson from Canada writes: I think it is terrific that the two Canucks with retired jerseys were not flashy goal scorers, but guys who showed to work every night with passion and dedication even on horrible teams. And not mention that they really contributed to the community through their philanthropy.
  8. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Man, Vancouver sure is hard up for heroes of any kind.
  9. Greg D from Waterloo, Canada writes: steve allan from Canada writes: A sure sign that your franchise has never accomplished anything - you have two jersey numbers retired and neither was worn by anything even remotely close to HoF material.

Ever seen what Linden did for the community? He was one of the founders of Canuck Place and continued to run it even after being traded to other NHL teams. It's a matter of respect for the man, in addition to the hockey player.
  10. john wardle from Canada writes: "Man, Vancouver sure is hard up for heroes of any kind. "

Naw, young people have all the gang/drug weasels they idolize and look up to.
  11. K. Anderson from Canada writes: Congratulations to Trevor! As a truly remarkable leader on and off the ice, I commend the Vancouver Canucks on their decision.
  12. Biggest Redneck from United States writes: I lost all respect for Linden when he made the statement.

" No deals now and no deals a year from now "

Then they settled for a lower salary cap then they had on the table at that time.
If he was such a great player and leader why did they bring in Messier to take over as captain?
He was lousy for the union and never took the Canucks anywhere.
  13. Neil No more last name from Canada writes: uhmm.....Good for Trevor and the Canucks

    smart move

wow - pent up anger here. I'm outtie
  14. boom boom from Canada writes: Definitely a good guy. Too bad Trevor didn't win a Cup in Vancouver, or elsewhere, he deserves it. Maybe he'll coach a team to the Cup someday.
  15. M Poland from Calgary, Canada writes: This is well-deserved.
  16. Chris TheMetalChick from Long Island, NY, United States writes: If you want to understand how I as an Islander fan feel about Trevor Lindens number being retired, think of how you Canucks fans felt listening to the Rangers and Oilers gush over Messier. I understand what a great guy he was for you, but for us he was... well, like I said, think of Messier on your team and youll have an idea what Linden was like on ours. You just dont take a Captaincy you dont care about, its wrong... and its not what a truly great player would ever do. Just my perspective.
  17. Popeye Dillon from North Vancouver, Canada writes: Steve Allan: Ted Williams never won with the Red Sox either but does anyone debate his greatness. You've been drinking Welland Canal water too long!
  18. Swifty J from Mtl, Canada writes: Chris TheMetalChick, Linden was quite a disappointment in Montreal too, but that doesn't diminish what he means to the Canucks.

Since it's not the Hall of Fame, it has nothing -- absolutely nothing -- to do with his time in Long Island, Montreal, or anywhere other than Vancouver.

(BTW, I don't really blame him for disappointing with the Habs... the team was at rock bottom around that time and he could not have been expected to work any miracles.)
  19. Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver and Elsewhere, Canada writes: Ah, to undo the past and have kept Linden and Quinn, instead of Stupid Mike and Mark Messier.
  20. Ter Jer from Canada writes: I think when a club retires a player's number it is due to his contribution to that club... regardless of the club's achievements (or lack there of).

I can't think of any other player on the Canucks whose committment to his team has been greater in the last 25 years.

His dedication to the community and Canuck's place was admirable.

I think, on the other hand, there have less than admirable players on other teams who have had their numbers retired who were far less deserving.... several of the 80's Oilers come to mind.
  21. dan vanman from Canada writes: Wow...pretty sad...a bunch of guys from back East, who've probably seen Linden play ...like twice...savage him relentlessly.

Look in the mirror and face your own insecurities guys.

Linden deserves the honour...both for his work on the ice, and his superlative work off it too.

Did you know he goes to Canucks place MANY times unannounced, just because he likes the kids and wants to help?

No, but you are ready and willing to disparage him.

    Sad, really.
