uncle rukus from Mississauga, Canada writes: These outdoor games are so overated and the other two have been duds. If they want to go old school then have a real outdoor game as they did back ith the 20's. No boards and have a real shinny game...outdoor games are just a big ticket gate grab and bad hockey on bad ice.

yogesh thakur from london, Canada writes: Isn't there already a blackhawks/wings game planned this year? If they keep holding 1 or 2 games a year the novelty will wear off... that being said, if the NHL brass was smart, they would have had a montreal-chicago, or montreal-wings game instead of an all american matchup. I'm sure there are plenty of habs fans in the states that would tune into a 100 year celebratory outdoor game.

Swifty J from Mtl, Canada writes: Yogesh, the Hawks/Wings game is coming up this season. If the Habs do the Big O thing it'll be next season (but possibly in the same calendar year).
If they're going to do this, I wish they'd do it at Molson Stadium. The fans might actually stand a chance of being able to see the game... but of course they wouldn't be able to sell 70,000 tickets.- Posted 04/09/08 at 1:01 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

slapdash dapoint from trawna, Canada writes: i don't think the novelty would wear off, espeically if 98% of the tickets weren't already alotted for coporate give aways or season ticket holders
too bad halifax or st. john's aren't on the radar for an outdoor nhl game - but i guess the game would only be an excuse for the fans out there to go buck and throw parties that would put the rest of the country to shame

add a few outdoor games across the prairies (both canada and the states) and maybe the nhl might find one or two additonal markets more viable than other current ones...

Wally Grisold from Toronto, Canada writes: No repair dates allocated? I always thought the place was under repairs from the date it opened. By the way, I think a few years ago a Grey Cup football game was played under ice hockey conditions and it was only November. And I believe it was used as an open air skating rink. Maybe the next one will be played at the new Laval University stadium that the Government just coughed up a pile of our dough for improvements.

Name Witheld from Vancouver, Canada writes: I remember visiting the Big O once in winter (before the roof was installed) and the interior contained a large ice oval, like a speed-skating track. It's a great idea, but I agee with some posters here that the Big O is just too big - that the majority of the seats would be too far from the ice surface for the fans to see the game clearly. Add glass on top of the boards, and the fans would be further detached from the experience.

Proud Canadian from Canada, Canada writes: Ok, a game outside with Montreal and another Canadian team. I dont care who, just make one thing sure. Do not invite Butthead from New Yak. Make it a Canadian thing, make Canada proud, get a game between the two oldest teams, the Leafs and the Canadians. Play one year in Montreal, next year in Toronto. Would be good for our country, good for the game, good for the fans. Lets do it.

Neil No more last name from Canada writes: Proud Canadian ----- it would be interesting to see if it could be scheduled seperate of the NHL organized one. i'm all for it.
An outdoor Canadian classic, seperate from the Hawks/Wings game (which might be pretty interesting in itself) would be awesome.
Doesn't even have to be the Leafs (but it would be pretty cool)- Posted 04/09/08 at 4:00 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Carl Hansen from Canada writes: The new plan in Winnipeg is we put a rink up at the football stadium, Canaad Inn as it were. The 35k fans capacity means we can afford an NHL team and we just mimic the Leafs so the April ice is no problem.

I second the Molson stadium as preferable over the "Big Owe"... the fans would have a better experience in my opinion and they could still probably get close to 30K people if they set up some bleachers on the field.- Posted 04/09/08 at 5:53 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

yeah, 'cause waiting 5 years between attending a live game(saving money, SCORING 'decent' seats[read; paying too much or winning a raffle]), $12/junk beer, and having ushers tell people to keep it down is really the game i grew up with.
but then again, making snide comments about people being positive means you have way too much going on in your life.

Terry Terry from Brantford, Canada writes: yogesh thakur from london, sez: "If they keep holding 1 or 2 games a year the novelty will wear off..." I thought the has pretty much worn off. Notwithstanding that, I think that each NHL team should be required to hold at least one outdoor game a year as a condition of staying in the league.
