Ruiz ready to join Toronto FC

Globe and Mail Update

TORONTO — Striker Carlos Ruiz, who was obtained in a Major League Soccer trade last week with the Los Angeles Galaxy, is expected to join Toronto FC Monday night.

He played last Wednesday for Guatemala in a World Cup qualifying match, a 1-0 loss to the United States, and then had some matters to tend to in Los Angeles.

TFC will spend a couple of days in the Collingwood, Ont., area where there will be a grass field for training and then return to BMO Field for a training session on Thursday before travelling to Carson Calif., for Saturday's game against Chivas USA.

Not training Monday was defender Nana Attakora-Gyan who has a cartilage tear in his knee that does not require surgery but will keep him out for three to four weeks.
