Toronto FC deal Cunningham

Globe and Mail Update

Toronto FC obtained a third-round draft pick from FC Dallas for forward Jeff Cunningham on Friday in a Major League Soccer trade.

Cunningham has been out of favour with TFC head coach John Carver and it had become only a matter of time when he would be moved elsewhere.

Toronto recently acquired forward Chad Barrett from the Chicago Fire and Danny Dichio has recovered enough from a concussion that he made the trip to Colorado for Saturday's game against the Rapids.

Cunningham, 31, joined Toronto FC on May 22, 2007 through a trade with Real Salt Lake for forward Alecko Eskandarian.

This season Cunningham started

seven of 16 games and played 747 minutes. He scored three goals and has 99 in his MLS career.

He probably played his best game of the season in Sunday's 2-0 loss to FC Dallas at BMO Field.

The move could clear the decks for another acquisition by TFC.
