Chris DiMarco
He's made only eight of 18 cuts this year, but his two best tournaments were among his past six. DiMarco has come close in some majors, including losing to Tiger Woods in a playoff for the 2005 Masters. He will turn 40 next month and appears to be finding his form again.
Matt Jones
Johnny Miller believes that the 28-year-old Australian has a great swing. Jones nearly won the Honda Classic in March, where he tied for fourth place. He had another T-4 in the recent Buick Open in Flint, Mich. He's ready to win.
Scott McCarron
Here's a 43-year-old bomber who has been out with injuries most of the past couple of years. He and Greg Norman are close pals. McCarron attended the recent wedding of Norman and Chris Evert. While McCarron missed the cut in last week's British Open, perhaps Norman's play will prove inspirational to him.
Parker McLachlin
At 29, he's a golfer many observers feel could break out and win his first tournament any time. McLachlin went to Punahou high school in Honolulu, which Michelle Wie later attended. He texts her regularly to encourage her. His father, Chris, coached basketball at the school. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was one of his players.
Nick Watney
This California native won the 2007 Zurich Classic in New Orleans. He's 14th in driving distance this year, at 298.6 yards, but 142nd in accuracy. Watney hits the ball high, ideal for the Abbey. If he can find more fairways, he could be right there down the stretch.
