COQUITLAM, B.C. Canada lost to the U.S. in the gold medal game for the third year in a row at the under-19 men's lacrosse championship, a 19-12 defeat Saturday.
It was the sixth straight gold medal for the U.S. on the way to a 36-0 record. The U.S. has won every game they have played at the tournament.
Team USA opened the scoring early in the game and never looked back, with Nicholas Elsmo, Craig Dowd, and Dean Gibbons all scoring three goals each for the Americans.
Canada was led by Adam Jones, of Owen Sound, Ont., who scored five goals, but didn't get much support from his teammates. Plus, the Canadians had many unforced errors and overcommitted on defence throughout the game.
Canadian goalie Remington Steele, who had played strong in back-to-back complete games, allowed 13 goals on 22 shots.
The game was not as close as it was the first time around in the round-robin game, when the game went to overtime in a 16-15 U.S. victory on July 6.
Earlier in the day, the Iroquois Nationals captured their second ever bronze medal at the championships by defeating England 19-10.
Emmett Printup continued his strong play at the tournament with a six goal performance, finishing up with 33 goals in the eight games that Iroquois played. He also chipped in one assist for seven points on the afternoon.
The Thompson brothers, Miles and Lyle also had strong performances with three goals apiece. Zac Guy was the top performer for England, scoring a hat trick in the second period, while Sam Russell and Greg Rowlinson each had two goals in the match.
