  1. Larfing Outloud from Virgin Islands (British) writes: I hope to see some of these Russian league games. The NHL could do with the competition.

    Cartel.
  3. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Competition is good...

    Isn't it ?

Otherwise, you end up with MLS&E...

    UGH!
  4. slapdash dapoint from trawna, Canada writes: maybe medvedev will grant a franchise to hamilton... that'd be fun

i'm not biased with being a canadian or anything, but does anyone else find it funny that 1) the nhl head office is in the states, and 2) the iihf is based in switzerland...?

seems to me, canada would be a good place if not for both, but for the nhl to be steered from. and even russia, sweden and finland seem more appropriate for the iihf digs than switzerland

do we have any sporting governing bodies in canada? in any sports we are at least in the top 5 of...?
  5. asdf asdf from Canada writes: Didn't Malkin break his contract with his Russian club to come over to the NHL? The NHL didn't really have a problem with respecting contracts then.
  6. David Gehring from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada writes: If Russia keeps sending players like Malkin and Ovechkin to the NHL, and the NHL keeps sending players like Alexei Yashin and Ray Emery to the KHL, then I'll be more than happy to see a new transfer agreement.
  7. the doooch from windsor, Canada writes: More Hockey world-wide means more jobs for Canadians
  8. Allan Martel from Canada writes: He shoots, he scores!! - Oh sorry he missed the nyet - again.

This is Bob Cole with your play by play.....
  9. F E from Ottawa, Canada writes: To bad, competition was a good thing.
  10. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: If the KHL were smart, they would have put franchises in Winnipeg, Hamilton and Halifax...

The guys running the NHL aren't even smart enough to put one in Hamilton.

    Cheers
  11. Trevor Brooks from Huron Park, Ontario, Canada writes: Malkin didn't break his contract per se. At the time he came over to the NHL Russian law had a mechanism for anybody (including athletes under contract) to leave their employer at any time and for any reason with written notice. Malkin gave his notice and then came to the NHL.

Also, I don't see why NHL teams should have to pay compensation for players out of contract. For players on contract compensation seems appropriate, but if they're out of contract they should be fair game. Do European teams have to pay NHL teams compensation if they sign out of contract players?
  12. David F from Canada writes: Yes, lets get some teams in Winnipeg and Hamilton. I wonder if a team in Saskatchewan would work.
