Jim Labidio from Delhi, Canada writes: Hey Houston,
How come comments are available on this item but not on yesterday's item on TSN's massive screw up in the World Cup? Seems like there were a few more people watching that than a meaningless late Saturday night CFL game between Sask and Edmonton, which you did nearly a week's worth of stories on last year.
For a forum that sure seems to love to "critique" competitors' mistakes, doesn't seem like your masters can take even a morsel of heat. Pretty sad.- Posted 26/06/08 at 8:51 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

S R from United States writes: There would be absolutely no need for new amateur sports channel if TSN and Rogers actually fulfilled its mandate and stopped showing cheap non sport program such as poker. Poker is not a sport. TSN and Rogers could very easily fill this void if it actually cared about quality sports programming.

Clearly it wasn't a TSN issue. Many countries around the world had the EXACT same problem.- Posted 27/06/08 at 12:31 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Why do we need a state sponsored network to watch professional sports in this country anyways ?
It's mass lunacy that we should all have to pay for this !- Posted 27/06/08 at 12:56 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: The fact is that this proposal of the CBC's is incredibly deceptive in its usage of feel good terms like "promoting amateur sports..."
Yet, their plan is to feature 75% professional sports...
No thank you, CBC --
Now, please go away!- Posted 27/06/08 at 1:26 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

P McLean from Canada writes: Why hasn't anyone pointed out the lunacy of the a)the fact new channels need to apply, b)rules preventing a "category 2 license from competing with an existing channel", c)the fact that people who feel threatened by a new channel(ie disrupting their own gravy train possibly) have the ability to complain and put a stop to it? Why can't a channel simply set up shop, and if people want it, it will be available, and if people don't, it won't. All these stupid rules, and none of them take the consumer into account. Welcome to Canada.

Celine Brown from Canada writes: Houston, you are such an unobjective 'journalist.'
Almost every piece of drivel you write attacks the CBC for some indiscretion, but never TSN or CTV.
Stop being such a 'homer.'- Posted 27/06/08 at 9:51 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Josh Cuppage from Montreal, Canada writes: "'This is no longer a slam-dunk,' a broadcasting source said."
A "broadcasting source", eh? I enjoy your columns Mr. Houston, but you use anonymous sources way too often. Much more often than reporters in the news section. If people aren't willing to go on the record with you, their words aren't worth much, and you shouldn't bother with them.- Posted 27/06/08 at 10:07 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Trent Walters from Edmonton, Canada writes: P Maclean: I agree wih you except for the fact that when it is tax payers dollars to see if a channel will make it or not.
BOLD, formerly known as CBC COUNTRY CANADA, is not a money maker (hence the rebranding as BOLD) but as tax payers we have to subsidize it.
As stated elsewhere, the public sector should not be competing or creating inflation with the private sector.- Posted 27/06/08 at 10:25 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Yes, that's an even better question....
So why can't anyone in this country actually answer those ones without simply resorting to name calling...
