  1. John E. Boy from Canada writes: I just hope the Canucks continue their downward spiral. The only thing that comes close to the idiocy of a Maple Laff fan is a passionate Canucklehead. Anybody find a pulse on Marcus Naslund yet? Ahhhh....I thought not. Bobby Lu has a better shot at getting a recording contract than a Stanley Cup. His turn to bail will happen in due course.
  2. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: What has happened to these G&M threads while I was in Montreal last week ?

There are actually two NHL team names in this headline and neither of them is the Maple Leafs.

    Incroyable !

    PS Go Habs.
  3. Duncan McCockenue from Canada writes: Uhm... although im biased towards my Flames, but Cammellari for Tanguay will turn out to be amazing, especially for the 2 million less on the cap hit he takes. I have a feeling we'll be acquiring either a Ryder or similar soon. Sutter strikes again!
  4. J K GALBRAITH from Canada writes: Whilet it may be true that Phoenix improved the most, they are still relying on a few high draft picks to be ready to make an immediate impact. Obviously, Phoenix has much farther to go to become a competitive team, so they needed to make a larger impact.
  5. Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Bob is making sure that the Habs' Centennial Anniversary season will not go un-noticed. Not with marketing gimmicks but with the actual on-ice product.

His plan is to have the fastest skilled high scoring team in hockey. Looks like he's going to make it happen.
  6. Neil No more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Cammalleri is an upgrade on Tanguay, in my opinion, younger, cheaper, hungrier and just as skilled, if not more so.

    Good pick-up for sure
  7. Neil No more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: And Tanguay should fit in pretty good in MTL, playing on the wing with Mats. Here come the Habs again.
  8. Dave Miller from Canada writes: Coyotes got a steal in Jokinen. This guy has been almost dominant in Florida for a while now (30 goals each season and more than a point per game since the lockout). Remarkable what he was able to do on a less than mediocre team. Underrated player in my mind, hopefully he'll have a chance to shine in Phoenix.

Welcome back Bookend, did you say Mooseheads are drawing 9,000 p/game--Holy Coww--That's the same as the Giants get a game.

Miller have the best insider joke of the 2008 Draft, when Luke Schenn was drafted 5th by the Leafs and TSN was interviewing him. While Luke was genuinely delirious to be picked by the Leafs--He said:

"Happy to be chosen by the Leafs--THEY ARE CANADA'S TEAM"

That (little sweet remark) sent five hockey nuts rolling on the floor in fits of laughter. The best part was the TSN (Toronto interviewers) didn't catch the under current meaning to his wisecrack.--Luke should be a stand-up comedian.
  10. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Gainey and the Habs have clearly been patient and now, is there time to shine especially in light of their upcoming 100th anniversary...

So, could we start hearing more news on the Habs on the so-called "National" broadcasters/newspapers for the upcoming season, please.

I thought another interesting Gainey acquisition this year was drafting Jason Missiaen, a 6 foot 8 inch, 210 lb goaltender from the Peterborough Petes...

    Agree, Western Bookend.

Luke Schenn sounds like he has a wonderful sense of humour.

He's likely going to need that playing under MLS&E rules.

    Cheers.
  11. M Poland from Calgary, Canada writes: Jokinen is sure to help Phoenix, Dave, but they had to give up Ballard [and whatnot] to get him. Also, as Darryl Sutter mentioned, Jokinen has never played even one playoff game, so he is an unknown quantity in that regard.
  12. Pudge Canuck from TO, Canada writes: Question - who is going to play defence for Phoenix?

They traded their 3rd and 4th Dmen away.

Jones, Yandle, Bell are their 3-6 dman?

    Free agency I guess....
  13. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Agree that Phoenix can hardly be considered to be "most improved" with the glaring deficiencies that they have in multiple departments... most notably coaching and defense.

Also, somewhat interesting that should the Habs acquire Sundin (my left arm still goes slightly numb whenever I say that), they will have the captains of the Russian, Finish and Swedish Olympic national teams on their rosters.

    Cheers.
  14. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Tell you Miller, watched the Coyotes when the season started in 08 and they were PATHETIC. An automatic 2 point joke!

Next saw them in Jan or Feb and might conservatively term them "The Most Improved NHL Team". Then saw few more games near the end of the Reg season, and was knocked off my chair.--Miller these guys are getting good! --Very FAST and exciting team (up front). Goal tending vastly improved but D only So-so.

Don't count the Coyotes OUT of you pool buddy.
Phoenix is going to open some eyes in a year or so. (Maybe in 09)
