BRIAN DUNPHY from Canada writes: Hey, What's going on here? Both semi-finals and the finals being played in Quebec City and what does Halifax get? Latvia and Slovenia consolation round? And, the politically correct choice of goalie made the game a lot closer than it should have been.
As an english Canadian from outside of Quebec I feel humiliated and abused by this clear favouritism towards La Smell Province. If the government (any government) would send me some money I would feel much better and perhaps even watch the final despite where it's played.- Posted 16/05/08 at 8:29 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Random Person from Heard and Mc Donald Islands writes: Too bad the Czechs lost to Sweden in OT 2:3...
If the bad calls{by refs} etc...didn't happen vs. Sweden they would have beat Canada today and be in the Final,or this is how these tournaments work,I guess....?- Posted 16/05/08 at 9:21 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

John - from BC Interior, Canada writes: Random Person... What are you talking about? I saw countless holding, high-sticking and interference penalties by Sweden that weren't called in today's game. For awhile, I also thought they weren't going to call that high-stick that cut Spezza. The reffing is inconsistent at best; I'll admit that.
Or, are you trying to say that the refs were poor in the Czech/Sweden game which allowed the Swedes to win?- Posted 16/05/08 at 10:45 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: BRIAN DUNPHY from Canada:
Not sure where you actually live, but as a Haligonian, I was very satisfied to have been able to see the games that Team Canada played here in the preliminary series, the round robin and the Quarter Finals. In advance, we knew that the series was being co-hosted by both Halifax and Quebec City so your comments come across as slightly sore grapes.
John Stanton from Canada:
I know that as the President of the Don Cherry it is customary to get, at least, a few shots in at the Euros, but couldn't we just try to enjoy our nation's victories without having to slur another nation and its people.
Go Canada Go. Allez Canada Allez.
Canada-Russia final.... Does hockey get any better than that ?

Well, you can host that little match up in your own mind...
However, for the rest of us living in the real world, it is going to be Canada and Russia in the Gold Medal Final...

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: I am certainly going to be in my best "gloating" mood Stanton during the finals as far as you are concerned.
The Pens and the Wings both have the same number of Canadians on them... the difference is Lindstrom will be the first Euro Captain to be presented with the cup.
--------------
As for todays game... Get a grip BRIAN... Hitchcock said all along he was going to rotate the goalies... not only that but Pascal Leclaire plays for Hitchcock. Stupid racist comment... crawl back into your cave.
-----------------
Nice to see Stralman play a strong game.... looking forward to his return to the Marlies.

Canada can't afford to be as sloppy as they were at times today against a very strong Russian team.

Ok, RP -- We get your point... You are disappointed that the team that you were hoping for was eliminated...

BTW When was the last time that Canada and Russia met up in the Finals of the IIHF World Championship?
What are you so afraid of a Canada - Russia final ?

harvey jingley from United States writes: Hey, Random Person from Heard and Mc Donald Islands :
If the Czechs LOST to Sweden how in heck were they going to beat Canada (they COULD have but they would have needed A LOT of luck).
The Czechs were okay but fell to Sweden and Russia in the group stages and then Sweden again in the Quarterfinals. Canada and Russia have dominated and are undefeated -- a fitting final for two excellent teams.- Posted 17/05/08 at 5:17 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Anybody think it strange the INTERNATIONAL (like the UN) ICE HOCKEY FEDERATION is playing it's 1st World Chamoionship in Canada?
In 100 years?
And some Canadians would rather ally themselves with Euros than Americans?
Like Euros know anything about hockey.- Posted 17/05/08 at 5:56 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

harvey jingley from United States writes: Michael Sharp,
International Hockey and Canada have not always agreed in the past.
It is nice to see some peace now isn“t there?
A lot of hard work has gone in here -- kudos to Halifax and Quebec City, Hockey Canada and the IIHF.
Look into the history of the IIHF if you want to learn something about the history of the international game -- rather than post random comments equating IIHF with th UN, etc.
By your reasoning -- do the Americans know more about hockey than these vague "EUROS"? I mean no disrespect to USA Hockey, here.- Posted 17/05/08 at 6:34 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

There's a War between those who say there's a War and those who say there isn't from Canada writes: The article states that Russia and Canada are two perennial powerhouses - but this is very much mistaken. Russia has NOT won the gold since 1993 and has not been in the final since 2002.
I think McGregor is perputating the mythical rivalry of 1972 and the powerhouses of the long gone Soviet Union.
Its time we give the other teams their due: Finland and the Swedes to some degree and the Czechs in particular.- Posted 17/05/08 at 7:38 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Baldy Cotton from Canada writes: True enough, but I think the point (perhaps not stated too well) is that the Russian hockey program has been to hell and back in recent decades, yet the country continues to ice either great or potentially highly competitive teams.

How is that possible in this age of political correctness and when there are 2 official languages in Canada?
