    For hockey on the beach.
    Apologies Bruce.

But that's what these rinks are turning into; slush bowls in ancient buildings designed for hockey played into early May at the latest.
Get it on, get it over: if two days between series' was enough for Howe, Orr, Richard, Gretzky, Horton, Lemieux (both of them), Lafleur.... Why do todays players need a break? This is not football, where fans and players are accustomed to long layoffs between seasons end and title game. Hockey teams play 3 games a week, for months on end and the layoff only serves to get them off of their game.
Hockey players are ready for the next opponent the minute they finish with the last one.
Bring it on as soon as possible, and to hell with NBC.

    sigh
  3. P McLean from Canada writes: I think part of the probelm with the length of playoffs is the second round, and the stupid reseeding. You had Pittsburgh sitting around for two weeks, because of so many bloody "what-if" scenarios. If Boston wins then they play, if Montreal wins. What is wrong with the 1-8 winner meeting the 4-5 winner, and the 2-7 winner meeting the 3-6 winner? How many times have teams that would have been ready to go have to wait because of the reseeding? You get home ice and the easiest first round opponent(at least based on standings) for finsihing first, how many more advantages are you supposed to get? It was quite refreshing to see the reg. season end when it did this season, and I have had hopes for a non-June finish. Getting the second round started when teams are ready to go would be a good start to continuing the trend.
