Eric B from Ottawa, Canada writes: The organizers are lucky to get 450 000! If the Habs had lasted an extra playoff round, I bet you sell 50 000 less seats., regardless of what time the games are played at...

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Eric B; That was their thinking when they scheduled the games (Canada's) for a 4:30pm Atlantic time. That's 3:30pm in Ontario, 2:30pm in Winnipeg, 1:30pm in Calgary and 12:30pm on the Left coast.
I respectfully choose to disagree with their thinking.
They would have had more TV coverage and sold out Canada games for a normal 7:00pm/7:30pm start in Halifax. Filling the bars in Vancouver and Calgary and Winnipeg with the afterwork crowds.
I still haven't been able to catch one of their games.... sucks.

Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Not overly familiar with Quebec City other than aware they are hockey mad in that town.
But am very acquainted with SPORTS in Halifax. Great for crowds.
You could draw 5,000 for a chess tournament.
Or 6,000 for Women's Basketball.
10,000 for Boxing
God knows how many for hockey if they had the arena.
And the CFL is vacuous not to put a team there.
Halifax may be the most Sports Mad burg I have ever seen.
What great fans!- Posted 13/05/08 at 10:41 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Hap;
My favourite cities in Canada... in order... Quebec city, Halifax, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal..... then Calgary.
Halifax needs the CFL before Ottawa gets one back and at the very least a new arena and an AHL club.

Michael Sharp from Victorious, Canada writes:
Scot Loucks from Pickering, you've never been to Victoria and enjoyed the company of a one Michael Sharp.
Otherwise, Victoria would be your favourite city.
I've never been to Pickering but it's my third favourite city.
Halifax gets second because I was born there.- Posted 14/05/08 at 2:29 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

A Leading Edge Boomer from Canada writes: Scot---Halifax will not get a CFL team before Ottawa for one reason only. No ownership group with tons of money to risk has not stepped up to make a Halifax bid, while in Ottawa, one finally has.
Hopefully, there will eventually be five teams in the eastern conference. Some in the east think that that Moncton is a better choice than Halifax. Moncton is even building a stadium, although there is some doubt it will up to CFL needs, about 20,000 seats , largely of the steel bleacher variety. Halifax needs to counter this by building a stadium too. The one at St. Mary's U only seats somewhere in the 4000-6000 range.
And of course do not overlook the possibility of someone making a bid for a Quebec City CFL franchise before some one in the Maritimes does.
Attendance in Halifax for the Worlds is a bit disappointing. Scheduling the Team Canada games for the late afternoon was probably a mistake.
The World Juniors in Ottawa starting on this coming Boxing day, has been sold out for a couple of months now. Somewhere in the order of a Little more than 450,000 seats sold.- Posted 14/05/08 at 9:08 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave Miller from Montreal, Canada writes: @ Scot: Halifax had an AHL team for decades and it didn't work... certainly not as well as the Moose have. I used to go to the Oilers and Citadel games at the Metro Centre and it just didn't have the same energy. I think its the same for this tournament. As a culture we Canadians don;t really take this tournament seriously: the best players (and not just Canadian but from ther other big six) aren't often there. It's a great distraction, but that's about it....Though I hope it's held here more in the future, that woulf certainly help build its popularity...

All that's needed is to get Miller, Sharpe and Loucks to kick in $10 Grand
Use the bucks to buy a Chinese Ping Pong team-- move it to Halifax
