Kitchener finally clinches OHL title

The Canadian Press

KITCHENER, Ont. — It wasn't a sweep, but the Kitchener Rangers are finally Ontario Hockey League champions.

After blowing a 3-0 lead, the Rangers beat the Belleville Bulls 4-1 Monday in Game 7 of the OHL final.

Belleville will live to fight another day, however. Because Kitchener is hosting the 2008 Memorial Cup, Belleville will represent the OHL in the Canadian Hockey League championship tournament.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Gatineau Olympiques and the Western Hockey League's Spokane Chiefs will also contend for the Memorial Cup.

Brandon Mashinter, Nick Spaling, Nazem Kadri and Mike Duco, into an empty net, scored for Kitchener.

Shawn Matthias had Belleville's lone goal.

Josh Unice made 26 saves for Kitchener while Mike Murphy stopped 47 shots for Belleville.
