Richard Hawrelak from Sarnia, Canada writes: Good time to bring up some Triple A and Double A talent. Jays aren't going anywhere fast. May as well give the rookies a chance. Who knows?

J S from Toronto, Canada writes: BB, I think that is the only option unless the Jays are willing to trade one of McGowan, Marcum or Litsch (or Burnett if someone was willing to take his contract) for a good starting outfielder, seeing that Stewart, Mench and Wilkerson sure aren't.
Really tough break. Wells was just starting to turn it around once May started.- Posted 10/05/08 at 4:24 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

A Dude from Toronto, Canada writes: Too bad. If the Jays are true contenders they should overcome this though. After all the offense sucked with Wells and Eckstein in it, so how much worse will it be?

brad maddigan from Canada writes: So much for telling Wells not to run, as he might injure himself on the basepaths. Maybe he should not have been running for fly balls, either. This hurts. Even more so as Reed Johnson is not available. Rios moves into centre, and Brad Wilkinsen gets to show Toronto fans what former Expo fans already know. This guy can hit, but I can't remember how good he plays in the field. As for trading a pitcher, don't do it. Toronto has the best starters in baseball, certainly in the AL East.

Scenic Sask! from Canada writes: brad maddigan - Brad Wilkinsen may be able to hit, we'll see....what he CAN'T do is catch or pick up a baseball off the field without fumbling. Mench on the other hand has NO ARM he can't throw from left field as well as Stewart who is iffy at best. So much for the two new guys. Without Wells....the season is over. Get used to last place, that's where they will finish.

Scenic Sask! from Canada writes: .................and keeping Shannon Stewart over Reed Johnson??? I was always a big fan of Shannon and was sad to see him go to Minnesotta, but that was a LONG time ago! Reed is by far the better player.

John Stanton from Montreal, Canada writes: Brad Wilkerson, not Wilkinsen, like Brad Maddigan said can hit, hasn't had his best years since leaving the Expos (not counting the Walgreens Nationals). He is a decent fielder, not the best, not the worst, but above average for sure. Just because he bobbled the ball twice today doesn't mean anything, everything was going wrong for the Jays. What he lacks he makes up for with a great arm, he used to pitch in college ball.
Also last I checked, not counting tonight, there's 124 games left. So still lots of baseball to play. I recall the Astros a few years back had a mediocre first half, and a great second half to make the playoffs, and let's not forget the Rockies last year. And still way too early to judge Wilkerson/Mench's impact.- Posted 10/05/08 at 9:12 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Yes John, sorry, didn't notice, just copied from the post above me, but he didn't blow two chances it was four flubs. Give the guy a glove with velcro in it!
..........and, yes the season is young, but the way the Jays are playing right now just put me out of my misery. Gregg Zaun's comment that they were pathetic was an understatement. Lead-off hitter in the 13th on third with 0 out and they can't score!?!?
The only sport I've followed for the past 25 years is baseball and the only team I've followed is the Jays. This year they looked good to be contenders, then they gave up on batting in runners in scoring position and JPR made some foolish trades.
The Jays have the best roster of starting pitchers but they will lose every time without some hitting behind them.- Posted 10/05/08 at 9:50 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

John Stanton from Canada writes: Ah well, he is human. Doesn't help when you're losing big time. A close game would surely mean more concentration, and so on. If he gets back to his Montreal days, that would be one less struggling batter, although he Ks a lot still, but is great at working the count.
Yeah anyway, obviously if they can get some offense, things could easily turn around. Being an Expos fan, slowly moved to the Jays (although I liked em when they had Delgado, Green, etc. and Tony Batista, who then was an Expo for a while.) I always remain optimistic.- Posted 10/05/08 at 10:19 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

John S from packalunchville, Canada writes: JP broke my heart when he submarined Johnson in spring training. I guarantee he'll be gone at the end of the season along with Stewart. I like Stewart as a person but he's done. The absolute best they can hope for without Wells et al is .500 and they need more than that. Even "pathetic" wont be enough.
