Matthew Goff from back in painsville now folks, Canada writes: Rios on third and no one out - yes pathetic and terrible. Bunt, show bunt, botch the bunt - at least try somehow to put wood on it. Anything. Everyone would prefer to see this mucked up rather than whiffing.

Kevin G from GTA, Canada writes: Pathetic is right. Shannon Stewart who was brought in for his supposed bat looks like a man far beyond his time at the plate. It seems to me it's time for JP to start polishing the resume - he's time is up here in Toronto. He has done nothing except spend uncle Ted's money.

Cole H. from Toronto, Canada writes: For those who are still clamoring for Reed Johnson (a player I really liked as well), have you seen how awful he's been at the plate recently? I watched a Cubs game the other day - Reed was 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts. His stats are plummeting after a hot start. He's not fairing any better than Stewart.

Couldn't agree more. Don't know why they had to come back from 3-0 and get my hopes up. Something has to change drastically. I know there are those in the media that are saying it's just a matter of time, however, the more games the Jays throw away, will bite them in the butt by the end of the year. I can't believe they are 1-5 against the Rays.
Oh well, there's always the Leafs right :-)

Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: Lead-off triple and they couldn't cash it in. Deserved to lose the game with that pathetic display.
Put the ball into play and that game is over. A suicide squeeze would have done the job as well. Bunting has to be the easiest part of hitting...I don't know why major leaguers struggle so much with it.
Tough road trip ahead. We'll see what kind of team this is in 10 days.- Posted 09/05/08 at 9:34 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: Barry Bonds is NOT the answer to helping this club. Why are people so into this guy??? He hasn't had an at bat in how long? He's a walking infirmary and he's a media circus on two feet.
He'll soon be trading in his ball uniform for prison garb. Last I heard there were legal restrictions in employing him in Canada with his pending legal situation. Not sure how valid that is but there's been discussion on the subject.- Posted 09/05/08 at 9:57 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

A L from Toronto, Canada writes: This teams problem isn't J.P. Take a look at the pitching staff we have right now! How can everyone hang this guy for a bad team when only half of the team is bad!! Last year and this year is the same story... poor clutch hitting. How can we really be upset with J.P. when it's the players that have let us down!! I hope they all take a page from Rolen's book and start swinging the bat! Put the ball in play and good things happen.

Cole H. from Toronto, Canada writes: Bonds would be a big boost to the lineup & I'd like to see it.....BUT - It's never, ever going to happen. For one thing it would take him some time to get back to where he was even a year ago - And the Jays, as evidenced by recent managerial decisions, don't have that luxury of time.
Secondly, the organization would be blacklisted by the Commissioner's office. Bud Selig would find ways to punish the Jays in any way he could. Did anyone else hear that Barry's beloved Giants have removed any likeness of him in their stadium? He won't be back & most certainly not with the Jays.- Posted 09/05/08 at 10:27 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

The only difference between the Leaf fans and the Blue Jays fans is the Blue Jay fans will stop going to the games when they are realistically out of the playoffs! Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: "A L from Toronto, Canada writes: This teams problem isn't J.P. Take a look at the pitching staff we have right now! How can everyone hang this guy for a bad team when only half of the team is bad!! " He's the one who put's this team together so if they don't produce then it IS his fault. Of course he doesn't go up there and swing the bat, but no GM in any league does that, so therefore if all teams flounder, then can the GM be exonerated? Of course not, he's the one who put his name behind this team, he is the one who selected who should sign and not sign with this team. No other GM in the Toronto sports scene seems to get as much of a free ride as he does. Therefore, if this team does not produce then he should definitley be turfed, after all he is on his 8th year of a 5 year plan. "Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: Barry Bonds is NOT the answer to helping this club. Why are people so into this guy??? " THIS GUY has the most homeruns ever hit by any human being (steriod induced or not). I couldn't care less about this so called 'media circus' that's going to follow the club around. The issue with this team is production or lack thereof. Bonds would bring that instantly. The point is moot though since the Jays and baseball doesn't seem to want the guy. Of course it's pretty hypocritical that a guy like Giambi, Tejada or even Zaun can be in the league but not Bonds.

Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: Bobby, how could you say that Bonds would be a good addition to this team? And "instant" production is a bit of a stretch is it not? Do you think he could sign today and be in the line-up by next week? No way! There is nothing hypocritcal about this situation. Giambi admitted to it before things escalated and in my opinion he's no better than the rest of them. I am not cutting any of these guys slack for cheating but Bonds and Clemens are the only two players who have reportedly lied about it under oath and continued playing afterward. Where are the others who denied it...Sosa, Palmerio,McGuire? They've all left the game. That in itself is a signifcant difference as is the fact that he's the home run record holder who didn't do it cleanly. Give the record back to Aaron and lets put this nonsense behind us. How is Bonds any different than Shoeless Joe Jackson? Both cheated (could argue Joe didn't) and yet one hasn't been kicked out of baseball. Bonds hasn't been kicked out, teams just realize he's not the type of guy they'd want on their team. Over the years Bonds has accused us of being racist by focusing the attention in his direction. He accuses the government and the media for ganging up on him and making him the poster boy for the steriod issue. He's cried foul for years and he's as dirty as they get. You know it, I know, he knows it. Bonds is a jerk and has no place in today's baseball. He was a great player clean but he became selfish and obsessed with glory. He cheated and got caught. No thanks, I'll pass.

Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: Ryan Hickman from Canada, here are Bonds' last year stats: 126 Games, 28 HR, 66 RBI's, 132 BB's, .276 Avg and Starting All-star Left Fielder. Not sure about you, but those numbers are pretty good. If he signs in the A/L he won't have to play the field, so he'll probably get more at-bats than that. "Do you think he could sign today and be in the line-up by next week?" Not sure about Bonds' conditioning, but I don't think it'll take much more than 10 days before he got into the lineup. "I am not cutting any of these guys slack for cheating but Bonds and Clemens are the only two players who have reportedly lied about it under oath." Actually I don't think that is true, I'm sure Sheffield and Tejada are in the same situation. "How is Bonds any different than Shoeless Joe Jackson? Both cheated" You're gonna have to put a lot of ball players in that category which includes former Jay Ed Sprague as well. "Over the years Bonds has accused us of being racist by focusing the attention in his direction. He accuses the government and the media for ganging up on him and making him the poster boy for the steriod issue. " Exactly who is 'us'? The media has followed Bonds around and scrutnized everything he has done, including getting information from his alleged mistress. However, you've got to take what the media says with a grain of salt. The media doesn't like him, but so what? Am I naive enough to believe that Bonds was clean? Absolutely not, however, I'm not stupid enough to think he was the only one. If MLB had no problem with the majority, then there is no reason to implicate Bonds on his own. The fact that he has not signed, but the Jays are going after individuals like Wilkerson or Mench, is evidence of Collusion. If you want to side with the media who consider Bonds a 'selfish-jerk' then that's your perrogative, however, you don't know him personally so you have no idea what is true. Either way, the Jays aren't going to sign him.
