Ken Hornick, a former Woodbine racetrack and Standardbred Canada employee, has been charged with illegally having drugs in his possession to sell them.
An OPP release referred to Hornick as a "drug supplier to the horse industry.''
Hornick was last in the news during an Ontario Racing Commission hearing into the positive drug tests of Woodbine trainer Bill Robinson four years ago. Hornick admitted that he wrongfully hacked into the personal email of former employer Hugh Mitchell, who had been the senior vice-president of racing for Woodbine Entertainment Group at the time.
Police executed a search warrant on Hornick's Mississauga home on December 11, 2007, seized a number of unlabelled substances and have found so far that one was a steriod while another was a drug used to treat dementia.
Hornick, 43, is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance and ten counts of possessing drugs for sale illegally.
Hornick was charged by members of the OPP Illegal Gambling Unit, the Ontario Racing Commission investigative unit and Peel Regional Police.
The investigation is continuing and further charges are pending.
Hornick will appear in Provincial Court in Brampton, Ont., on June 5.
