Wharnsby: Stars remember inspirational employee

Globe and Mail Blog Post

You may have noticed that the Dallas Stars have the initials MM on the back of their helmets. The initials belong to Matt McKee, the popular director of ticket operations who sadly passed away due to cardiac-related causes at the age 32 on Jan. 16.

Three days after his death, the Stars honoured their friend with a moment of silence before their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and then went out and beat the Jackets 3-1.

McKee, who was an inspiration to many because he had previously battled cancer, had worked for the Stars and Texas Rangers organizations for 10 years. He and his wife Tracy had one child, daughter Madeline Joy, who turned two a few days after her Daddy passed away.

The Stars employees established the Matt McKee Family Trust to assist his family with current expenses and future needs, and word was that Dallas co-general manager Brett Hull made a substantial donation to help out his good friend's wife and child.
