  1. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Good for Cherry and good for ESPN. Hope I can find the channel on expressvu where I can watch him/listen to him (can do without seeing so many grandmothers couches and curtains destroyed just so he can have a new revolting suit.).

So Cherry is picking the Pens over Philly.... offering an olive branch to Crosby is my thought... I don't believe he really believes that.

As for coverage... Bob Cole does Pens/Flyers... Chit. That will be the series to watch.

Anybody else notice that McGuire is missing from TSN coverage? Hey maybe somebody is listening.

I'm picking Wings in 5.... Philly in 6.... Then the wings school the young Flyers in the final.

    Cheers
  2. Al Gonquin from Down South, Canada writes: To "beef up" NHL playoff coverage? Man, that says it all! Now listen all you kids and coaches out there....
  3. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Does the fact that ESPN is adding Cherry mean that we won't see his rants in his clown suits on HNIC broadcasts for the remainder of the NHL playoffs ?

    YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS! Woo Hoo!

Whoops, what I mean is that HNIC's loss is ESPN's gain.

    Cheers.
  4. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Dammit -- I should have read the article first....

    He's doing both...... Groan !
  5. george simko from Canada writes: We all have our opinions, Scot. The problem for the Flyers is that
school will start early for them, being instructed by the Pens on
the finer aspects of the game. Pens in 5. As for the eventual
    winner,still deliberating. Sincere regards.
  6. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: George Simko....

All I can say to that... is that you are in the majority sir.... will be fun to watch.

    Cheers
  7. Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: Canadians are always sensitive to how they are preceived by Americans and Cherry is no exception

watch Cherry tone down the over the top outrageous comments, the military homages and the loud suits like he did when he was on NBC last year - Cherry may be a buffoon but he's no idiot.
  8. Larfing Outloud from Virgin Islands (British) writes: Rock on Don. Go Pens!!
  9. a b from Newcastle, Canada writes: Gosh...More Greg Millen...arg Does a goalie ever allow a goal or a goal is the goalies fault. Does he ever watch the CBC replays. The video guy keeps showing the replays and Millen keeps arguing with himself. Boy is he annoying.
  10. Sean O'Reilly from Canada writes: The Canadian Sports Broadcasters do sports fans injustice with their poor coverage of anything not hockey.
  11. Andrew Perry from halifax, Canada writes: Krusty the Coach will fit right in with rest of ESPN's parade of shills and clowns: better yet, put him on PTI with Wilbon and Kornheiser, comedy gold I tells Ya.
  12. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Cherry on ESPN - good luck winning over boderline fans with that. His violent slant will push them further away.

    RDS is killing it.

Bob Cole, and more Bob Cole. He doesn't really sound interested in broadcasting anyone other than the Leafs...why do they bother. Hughson should really be getting the starting role. I guess Cole is better of doing the East, where he might remember some names. sheeesh
  13. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Andrew Perry from halifax, Canada writes: better yet, put him on PTI with Wilbon and Kornheiser, comedy gold I tells Ya.

    Why's that?

Because they don't know jack about hockey?
  14. Juan Valasquez from Scarborough, Canada writes: Scot - I couldn't agree more with you about Pierre.
He is the worst thing to happen to hockey broadcasting since the glow pucks on FOX. He is loud, boorish, non-sensical and full of himself.

It drives me nuts, and has on severaL occasions driven me to mute the television.

The way he verbally fellates Dion Phaneuf, Mike Richards or anyone with an 'active stick' drives me up the wall.
  15. Martin Fedgrass from Canada writes: Well good luck with that, Don

I wont be watching you....no canadian teams...hockey is done until September
  16. King 99 from Canada writes: NOW YOU KIDS LISTEN UP...I'm tellin ya dat dis is da best ting to appen to ESPN in years. One problem I see is more C&M. No not country music....

    Cole and Millan...ZZZZZZZZZZ

    Go Pens...
  17. Deborah from just west of T.O. from Canada writes: I'll watch till the bitter end -- after all, it's hockey, and it's a long summer.
As for Mr. Fruit of the Loom, I either change the channel or hit the mute button. Most of the time he just puffs up like a blowfish, becoming almost incoherent with rage/ranting. I keep hoping he'll explode into a lovely burst of confetti.
And there's another bonus with hitting mute: I don't have to put up with Ron McLean's so-called humour. He's such a toady and name-dropper with Cherry. At least with Kelly Hrudey he manages to be an adult.
And why doesn't HNIC break up the snide remarks and male posturing that make up most of the Hot Stove segments? There are many competent female reporters out there. I guess maybe they're too smart to make an appearance.
Too bad Cassie's working mainly games from the west.
  18. Steve Howe from North of Wawa, writes: Cherry won’t like it too much on ESPN. The ratings for Trailer Park Corner will be lacking. His act works best for NASCAR and WWE fans.
Most hockey fans (Canadian and American) view Cherry as satire. You know that famous sense of humour we are supposed to have about anything? [except hockey]

As for Millen, he used to be better. His obsession with telling the viewer EVERYTHING about the goalie position dominates way too much of CBC&8217;s coverage. Poor C. Price. Millen is part of the reason why Price had so much Canadian media attention heaped on him. Give it a rest Millen! At least I can&8217;t always tell Kelly Hrudey was a goalie the moment he opens his mouth.
  19. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: McGuire is annoying to listen to because he gets excited about little things that most don't notice. But that's only because he knows his hockey through and through, and there is no denying it.

I think he got scooped up by "Vs" for a bulk of Playoff games. I doubt TSN would let him go/fire him/not renew his contract. He's probably the most knowledgable hockey analyst out there, he's just annoying to listen to.
  20. Ziggy . from Canada writes: Deborah from just west of T.O. from Canada writes There are many competent female reporters out there. I guess maybe they're too smart to make an appearance.
    Really?
Would you enlighten us their names,
  21. Mike Witcher from montreal, Canada writes: Alright, here's what I do not understand, if Walter Gretzky got an Order of Canada award for mating with his wife and Brian Adams got one for moving away from Canada, why doesn't Don Cherry have one?
  22. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Sissy Schuss from Canada:

Very interesting comments at 8:08 AM -- I think that it will be interesting to watch Cherry's behaviour on ESPN.... If he starts kissing boys from Kingston, Ontario or former players of the Mississauga Ice Dogs in loud suits on air, all will be OK because then I will know his behaviour is likely related to dementia...

However, if he actually behaves civilly in proper attire then we will all know that he is giving more credit to the intelligence of American hockey fans than he is to Canadian hockey fans...

Then we have a real problem... Any low blows directed at Crosby will also be trouble...

    Did you hear that, Grapes?

Keeps the Clowns in the sideshow where they belong, and hey, two guys who don't want to know about hockey arguing with one who only knows hockey has a lot orf comedy potential, more Monty Python than SNL but hey....
  24. Andrew Perry from halifax, Canada writes: R Miller from Halifax,

You forgot the best part, they have to keep him!
  25. Montgomery C. Burns from Springfield, Canada writes: I'm sure Cherry will embarrass Canadians everywhere.

Too bad about Cole calling the Philly-Pens series. I was looking forward to watching that one. Guess I'll have to have the TV on and the sound coming from NHL.com

Hughson and Simpson are a much better combo. In any event, Pens and Wings win their series in 6.
  26. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Andrew Perry from Halifax, Canada:

It would serve Krusty the Coach right for constantly slurring everything that is good about hockey in favour of his Rockem' Sockem' nonsense and using his Taxpayer funded soapbox to promote his own brand of regionalistic favouritism...

His act of targetting the Montreal Canadiens, Sidney Crosby, players from Quebec, players from Europe, etc. in his blue and white facepaint has grown stale North of the Border.

I also wonder if the ESPN folks had gotten wind of those Angus Reid Poll numbers on whether Grapes should retire from HNIC ?

PS. I also laughed when the Kid's team sent Shanahan's team for an early golf season... Got to watch those "hot dogs," Shanny.

    Done and done !
  27. Andrew Perry from halifax, Canada writes: R Miller :
I took no glee in Avery's injury, and Shanahan may even have been trying to make a point to the Competition Committee with his little dervish dance. I do think that had Avery been called for Unsportsmanlike when he ignored Van Massivefailure's directions to stop his idiocy a lot of foolishness would have been avoided.

I also took no glee in Avery's splenic rupture and hope that he is making a full recovery from his injury...

However, I also learned many years ago not to mess with karma.

    Cheers.
  30. Verona Raven from United States writes: Addition by subtraction....the day Greg Millen was shipped out of Connecticut.

    Cherry is Canada's Archie Bunker....
  31. Rob C from Canada writes: McGuire and Miller are doing the WC games from Halifax/QC. Good place for them both. They are not as strong as Cuthbert and Healy....What is wrong with McGuires mic - does he not speak into te thing? Or are the sound guys in the truck doing us a favour and muffling him?

Agreed but wouldn't he look better on ESPN than HNIC...
