Canadian men's Olympic coach and former national team midfielder Nick Dasovic is poised to become the next assistant coach of Toronto FC, the Globe and Mail has learned.
The 39-year-old Vancouver native would fill a void on the Toronto bench which has been vacant since the departure of assistant Bob Gansler at the end of the 2007 season.
Dasovic represented Canada's senior men's team 63 times beginning in 1993 before retiring from international duty in 2004.
Toronto FC officials refused to confirm or deny Dasovic's appointment but soccer insiders have hinted an announcement is pending in the next few days.
Dasovic played professionally with Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb, Scotland's St. Johnstone and also with the Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps of the United Soccer Leagues but was unavailable for comment when contacted on Friday.
Dasovic recently guided Canada's men's Olympic team to an unsuccessful third place finish during the CONCACAF men's Olympic qualifying tournament in Carson, Calif., and Nashville and was also an assistant coach during Canada's winless and goalless performance as hosts of last summer's under-20 World Cup.
