  1. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: See the Globe cant even post the game score and open the lines after a game. Cant wait for the Loonatoons to post, FIGJAM Rob, Fabian Stanton, the great American boys Paul and Gordon. Cant wait for their comments. Heatley 3 goals 1 assist. Cant wait. Come on FIGJAM, giver boy.
  2. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: "Dany Heatley was a star on the ice. The Ottawa Senators sniper scored three goals Friday as Canada defeated Slovenia 5-1. Heatley, who also had an assist, became Canada's all-time leading goal-scorer at this event". Need I say more.
  3. B G from Canada writes: No, you don't need to say more, PC. But Heatley has to do a lot more - where it actually counts - if he wants to be taken seriously. I suppose with a decent team around him he can play like a star. But he needs to prove that, on a weak team like Ottawa, he can make something happen in the playoffs. Otherwise - he'll keep having lots of chances to play in this tournament.
  4. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: BG from Canada, where are your team members on this team? Please note whom they are.
  5. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: BG from Canada, is your team in the playoffs?
  6. Gordon Howe from HockeyTown, United States writes: Sorry loud troll, I'm too busy with the playoff tickets to worry about who scores what on Canada's team. Good luck though.
  7. Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: what with canadian teams vacating the SC playoffs this year and the games being so lopsided - this may be the ticket to buy! get thee to the IIHF worlds
  8. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: I was sitting about three rows behind Cam Ward in the first and third periods which meant most of the play was in the other end. The Slovenian goaltender, Robert Kristan, was outstanding and made some unbelievable stops. The 65 Canadian shots were definitely an underestimate.

Boy, the Latvian and Slovenian fans were really something else. The Latvian drum band (mentioned in this article) were about six rows behind me, and EJ Ravensbud will be disappointed to know that their fans were singing and having a good time throughout the game. It was great fun just to be sitting with them.

    Cheers.
  9. i. ignatius from Mount Pleasant, Canada writes: as a canadian with slovenian heritage, it was a mixed blessing to see our boys win this game. Kopitar is a pretty darn good product coming out of a country of 2 million people with only 7 or so ice rinks in total. cripes ... there are more rinks just in the loop my kids play house league hockey in!! I was pleased it wasn't a total blowout like the last time they faced each other ...

here's hoping the Slovenes can win a few and avoid being relegated again. they keep bopping back and forth between A pool and B pool.

it would be so sweet if the NHL instituted relegation, top team in AHL joins NHL and bottom team in NHL goes to AHL. it would improve competitiveness all around, as there's definately something at stake even for the worst teams in the league ...

    Go Slovenia Go!
  10. Proud Canadian from Canada, Canada writes: Gordon Howe, your team is dong well also. Good luck to you.
  11. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: i. ignatius from Mount Pleasant, Canada:

If the fan spirit and support is any indication, I also hope that both Slovenia and Latvia win a few games in this series.

I was really impressed by the fans of both these teams that showed up for this game in strong numbers and wearing their colours. They were generally great sports too in congratulating the Canadian fans around them when Team Canada scored a goal, and gave their team a standing ovation as they left the ice despite the loss.

I wish that more North American hockey fans behaved like that.

Kopitar was definitely the best forward on their team today, but that goaltender, Kristan, really put on a good show.

Do you know if he has he been drafted by any team in the NHL? Just wondering?

    Cheers.
  12. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: The other thing that I noticed about Kristan is that his pads, blocker and catching glove seem to be the old style, plain brown leather...

However, during the second period when he was in my end, I noticed that the condition of the pads were mint and must have been made to look that way...

It was pretty neat to see the plain old brown pads, blocker and trapper back on the ice...

    Cheers.
  13. W R from Stratford, PE, Canada writes: Only five goals on 65 shots? Three of them by one player? This doesn't sound like a good team performance to me.
  14. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: W R from Stratford, PE:

Canada was all over Slovenia this entire game and Canada also scored two goals that were disallowed. The score could have easily been 12-1.

As I have mentioned, the Slovenia goaltender, Kristan, was quite amazing. There were also more than 65 shots -- I was watching the shot count and many didn't seem to get registered. I assume that it was why the coach for Slovenia also made the comment that it seemed like 95 shots.

    Cheers.

No - say no more cause you sound dumb.
Canada beat "Slovania" woo freekin hoo. Heatly finally found a team he can score against.

Tucker for heatly, $$ and a draft pick. TO needs a lackie to sharpen skates.
  16. W R from Stratford, PE, Canada writes: Maybe the score could have easily been 12-1 but it wasn't. 5-1 just isn't very impressive against this level of opposition and makes one wonder how well Canada will do when they meet the big teams.
  17. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: I guess the Canadian glass will always be half full, eh?

Now, back to my 9:16 PM comments about those cheerful and enthusiastic Slovenian fans who gave their team a standing ovation for losing...

    Cheers.
  18. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Last night on Sportsnet they interviewed Kopitar and as the only bonafide NHL'er on the team they asked him about there chances.

He said if we keep it within 5 (goals) we will consider it a victory.

Cheers to them... they did exactly that.

As for Canada.... 65 shots says to me they are firing on all cylinders...

I'm sure a lot of Sens fans are looking at Heatley and saying WTF?

    Cheers
  19. Howard Young from Canada writes: How many of Heatley's goals were set up by Spezza? Food for thought.
  20. David Snider from Ottawa, Switzerland writes: Ah, Dany ... THERE you are! I've been looking for you since, oh, about February. We missed you in April.

    Sigh ...

Nice to see that he's still got it though.
  21. Jeff Gordon from Toronto, Canada writes:

Coward Young asks how many goals were set up by Spezza?

None Coward...was playing on a different line.

But over the past 3 years....68 goals were set up by Spezza.
  22. John Stanton from Canada writes: The Heatley goals were all products of good corner work and someone getting a puck to him (Murray said that of Heatley - "you need to get him the puck as a goal scorer"). Unless Ottawa fans want to see Heatley add to his glorious record of playing in the world championships instead of nhl playoffs, the Senators better find a few guys who can consistently (and like to) win battles in the corner and get him that puck. I would suggest Spezza isnt that guy. I'd trade him for two strong cornermen in a heart beat.....even a slow Spezza heartbeat at that!

    GO CANADA!
  23. lost ontarian from Canada writes: Heatley says: "I've always had fun here," he said. "I think that's the key for me." Murray, did you hear that. he needs it to be more FUN. Call Bettman, get the rules changed to make the NHL playoffs easier and funner for the poor guy. And maybe like many of us have said all ear...get him some linemates with cojones and watch the guy roar. NHL playoffs take guts and obviously Heatley needs that from his linemates cuz he didnt have any against the Pens. Go Canada
  24. paddy o'reilly from Canada writes: I wrote elsewhere in a comment about the Sens that never got posted ( anyone else have trouble getting there stuff posted?) that I'd trade half the team to get a Nash, Smyth, Morrow, or Iginla to be captain, but they'd do nice double duty getting the puck out to Heatley.

I think I'm onto sumpthin here. . .any takers? I've got a whole list of guys I think the Sens should dump. . .why not all at once?

Hope T.C.'s finish around the net improves, cuz the opportunities sure aren't.
  25. M Liggins from Perth, Canada writes: Mac - GLG from Canada writes: Tucker for heatly, $$ and a draft pick. TO needs a lackie to sharpen skates.

Mac - only pobem is they'd need to change to oxygen masks from nasal canula in the first aid, trainer and dressing rooms, Tucker only breathes through his mouth.....

    But okay, I'll bite.

  26. Dan L from Canada writes: Mac - GLG from Canada wrote:

"Tucker for heatly, $$ and a draft pick."

$$ and a draft pick, got it, but ah, what in the heck is the use of Tucker in the deal? I can see a soccer team picking him up, he's quite the actor and all but I fail to see what use he'd be for a hockey team.
  27. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Mac - GLG from Canada writes: "Tucker for heatly, $$ and a draft pick. TO needs a lackie to sharpen skates". Cant make that trade, Tucker has been traded to the Amhersberg Flying Fish Nuts for 800 used pylons, 400 rolls of hockey tape and all non used athletic supports (cleaned) from the team dressing room after the start of the 08-09 season.
  28. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: John Stanton from Canada writes: "I'd trade him for two strong cornermen in a heart beat.....even a slow Spezza heartbeat at that"! Stanton, how can you trade when you have no team. You sound like a kid with no marbles trying to steal from the kid that has the whole pot. Doesnt work that way. Another statistic that you are not familiar with is this one But over the past 3 years...".68 goals were set up by Spezza". Rest my case Stanton, get out to Vancouver where you can watch the games as a matinee.
  29. Howard Young from Canada writes: Jeff Gordon, you might want to go back to NASCAR.

I'm a regular poster and everybody knows I'm a Sens fan. Spezza cannot create space for Heatley on the ice as effectively when Alfie is not on the ice with him. There are Centres who don't need anyone to create plays.

Don't get me wrong, I like Spezza and only hope that he gets better as he gets older. However, if he isn't capable then that would be a concern.

Just imagine Heatley on the wing of guys like Thornton, Crosby, Briere and Datsyuk.
