  1. Daniel Sturgis from Rabat, Morocco writes: I'm glad to hear Jagr might be going to the Russian super league. I'd like to see them scoop up other big names, such as Tavares. It would make the NHL think twice about the rookie salary cap, no flex draft rules, as well as providing the paving stones for a future international league.

D M from Canada writes: Well, finally a player admitted it - you can't play 100% throughout the season, but everyone insists on having such a long season, so the paying customer ends up paying for a dilute product (let's not even talk about what the Leafs fans are paying for...) I still don't understand the greed - I understand the owners wanting more games to collect more money to pay salaries, but why doesn't the NHPLA say "We'll play 15% fewer games and we'll take a 15% pay cut" (or insist on a lower percentage of the cap as the total incomes, say 50% instead of 54% or whatever it is now). I mean, the players will still be millionaires, but they will have fewer injuries, maybe longer careers (and more money in the long run?), and more time with their families. I'm not paid much, but I negotiated a lower salary but with much more vacation time, and the quality of life is so much better. Some people, I know, can't afford that, but the NHL profs sure can..

On another note, when Jagr said Gretzky was better than 70 or 80 of the players, I hope that was a misquote or slip of the tongue. He meant 70 or 80% of the players? Or in the "top 70 or 80"? With what, 600 players or more, only being better than 70 or 80 shouldn't be a goal...

Actually, based on what I have gathered from a lifetime of watching interviews with hockey players, I thought that players always play at 100% all season long, but then crank it up to 110% or 120% during the playoffs. Let's not lose sight of those valuable sports cliches! :)
  4. David P from Canada writes: Let the Russian Super League take Tavares...he gets to play by the rules like everyone else...or have we forgotten that for most of the WJC he was stapled to the bench because he's inept when it comes to a two way game? Or when he took a stupid penalty in teh super series and Sutter told him to take his skates off? Great scorer, but lots of guys can score in junior...I hope he goes and plays for some city in Russia and gets gobs of cash for playing in one end of the rink...

I agree with the poster who points out that a player finally says the season is too long...Cut the season back by 10 games or so, then we're not watching hockey into June, cut the first round to a best of 5 and then maybe the stars can continue to be healthy stars for a few more seasons rather than watching them end up on the 4th line because their ability isn't where it once was...
