Johnny Canuck from Canada writes: It is obvious that Mr. Millward has not seen a Chelsea this season when he uses the terms 'wealth of talent' and 'Shevchenko' in same sentence.

The game will be a classic

Andrew Rideout from Canada writes: I'm gonna have to go right ahead and agree with Johnny Canuck there on matters pertaining to Shevy. One could argue that Shevchenko is quite possibly the biggest (namely expensive) flop in the history of English football. He just doesn't look up for it. You know he wants to score and he's gotten the odd goal here and there, but this was pretty much the most feared striker in Europe when he made the move. You could argue that Henry was more potent at the time, but Shevchenko had a bigger reputation. He'd won trophies and played at the highest level on a regular basis.
To be honest, one could argue that his arrival in Blighty was the final nail in the coffin for the age old myth that the Serie A was superior to the Premier League. Not only was he out of his depth, he was made to look ordinary. He was one of the reasons why Mourinho was fired, make no bones about it, but now Grant doesn't play him either. How many minutes did he get in Wednesday's Champions League game? Four? Five, tops.
As a United fan, I know all about bad signings (ahem, Veron, Kleberson, Djemba X 2, Liam Miller... I could go on... Bellion? I'll stop).
Chelsea have had the easiest possible route to the Champions league you could imagine. Liverpool were the only halfway tough team they played and they only scraped through a couple of the other ties... They faced Rosenberg Trondheim, Valencia (much weaker this year than in past years), Fehnerbache, Schalke 04 and Olympiakos. United have played Sporting Lisbon, Dynamo Kiev, Roma (four times), Lyon, and shut out Barcelona over three hours of competitive football. Could Chelsea do that? They needed extra time to beat the fourth placed team in the Premier League.
I wonder what odds I could get on Anderson scoring the winner in extra time for his first goal of the season?- Posted 01/05/08 at 7:04 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

As for Chelsea's route, I guess you forget United's easy draw in 06/07? And their easy draw in the knockout - until they met a quality side in Milan and couldn't cope?
So easy on the excuses for why the Chelsea is there. They deserve to be there, and it will be a brilliant final.- Posted 02/05/08 at 10:00 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Joe Public from Toronto, Canada writes: I think the game will be good, but there's no reason to think that the style will be any different than how either of these teams play during their domestic games ie. Chelsea is likely to play an unattractive but possibly effective brand of football.

Mr. Happy from Canada writes: After watching Chelsea v. Liverpool and I'm really looking forward to seeing the CL Final. Add to it the billing as the unofficial EPL championship match and the stakes rise even higher.
As for Rideout's comments regarding Sheva, nails in coffins and myths about Serie A, he should be reminded about Milan's performance in the year following Sheva's departure.
If Sheva's flop at Chelsea says anything it highlights the importance of team play, tactics and esprit de corps that make soccer the beautiful game.
