I mean the Swedish Elite league is probably a step below the AHL let alone the NHL. Would teams be falling over a 23 year old that had 37 points in 54 AHL games? That translates to 56 points in 82 games. 56 points in 82 NHL games would make for a mediocre 2nd line winger and when you consider that those numbers are the equivalent to what he did a a league that is vastly inferior to the NHL, then why get so excited? If the guy were 17 years old and putting up those numbers then that would be exciting but don't appear to be anything special for a 23 year old. With all the talk about this guy, I was expecting him to be putting up 70-80 points in 54 games.
  2. TOP SHELF from Canada writes: Good chance he'll be a bust considering all the hype and not really the stats to back him up. Good timing on his part as theirs not much out there and everyones 'buying'. Hes this decades Radek Bonk and before him Mariusz (back flip)Czerkawski, both were at one point "the best pro players NOT in the NHL". Radek actually had/has some depth to his game, Czerkawski was kinda shallow, too bad he never did his infamous back flip celebration in the NHL would of been good for a laugh.
  3. The Radish from London, Canada writes: The stats of prospects from European leagues and US college hockey often don't look all that impressive. I'm not sure why, but I'd guess that they bring young players along a little more slowly.

As the article states he's in his first year with an Elite League team and he's playing a 'limited role'. I'm assuming that means he's not playing on a top line and he's not getting a lot of ice time. His career stats are pretty good though and can be seen here:

    http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=6659&lang=en

In 2006-2007 he had 37 goals and 36 assists in 41 games with the Division 1 team BorĂ¥s HC.

Of course he very well might not live up to all the hype, which has become a bit much, but the team that lands him basically gives up nothing to receive a 23 year old prospect who just might turn out to be a top 6 forward.
  4. D M from Canada writes: I'd put the Elitserien higher than the AHL, but still, the numbers aren't that impressive on the first look. I heard he was only getting around 10 minutes a game, so with 20, who knows? Though makes you think, if he was that good, the coach would put him on for more..!

Heard also that he hasn't tried that hard before, and only now taking hockey seriously. Seems that when it comes to the NHL playoffs, he'll probably disappear, if you're not sure you want to play pro hockey until you're 23.

But as mentioned, why not? Give away nothing to try out a player that might do OK..
  5. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: One of the Canucks Moose players, Lee Goren I think, played against Brunnstrom in Sweden in the last year or so.

He said..."I didn't really notice him. I'm not saying he isn't a good player, but he never really stood out on the ice. There were severqal others on their team we were more worried about."

Kinda says it all right there.

But who knows, he could be a great player. But whomever gets him will probably end up overpaying.
  6. Michael Sharp from Victorious, Canada writes:

    He's a Swede, right?

God love the Swedes, but I've had my fill of them in Vancouver.
Give me a Canadian or an American anyday.

They at least play with heart.
  7. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: I think of no other team that needs Fabian than Toronto. Wasnt there some singer named Fabian years ago? Before closet doors became unjammed? Somehow I remember that name.
  8. Popeye Dillon from North Vancouver, Canada writes: The Swedish Elite league would be the minor league for the AHL. Name one tough guy you've ever heard of called "Fabian?"
  9. dale spinx from Canada writes: I heard the inflight movie from sweden was "johnny be good".
