Richard James from Canada writes: Aw, meddling owners who know best. Sounds like the Toronto situation and we certainly know how successful the Leafs are!!!!!!!!!

Too Much Rain from Canada writes: He signs the cheques and he can do whatever he wants. It's his team after all. At least this guy cares enough to stay involved.

jim slim from van isleey, Canada writes: Too negative?? Ha! Imho they arent negative enough! Tony Gallagher??? Ha x2. Why would his opinion count and why would people care? More Pratt and McCrae ; there is only one sports radio show here (full time) and they are pretty much 'homers'.

Terry in YVR from Vancouver, Canada writes: What's done is done, now lets move forward and throw our support behind the Canucks organization. We won't know the consequences until the end of next season. They better not tank the team in order to get better draft picks - however as history goes, we seem to be heading into a downswing. Go Canucks go!

Sawchuck 30 from Far away from the GTA, Canada writes: Gallagher is the worst hockey columnist in the history of sports journalism. His recent sudden180 degree change from being anti-management to pro-management was suspicious, his personal friendship with the new GM certainly explains that. The fact that Gallagher never mentioned that he was a buddy of Gillis' while championing his hiring further sullies his honesty.
Some members of the Vancouver media have pilloried Brian Burke for supposedly calling a media outlet to try and get a member of the local media fired many years ago. It will be most interesting to see if those same media people show double contempt for Aquilini since he called two* different newspapers to try and get *two members of the media fired. My bet is that won't happen.- Posted 01/05/08 at 12:43 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Ed Long from white Rock, Canada writes: Aquilini obviously has a very thin skin and a very fast trigger finger.
As an independent entrepeneur that might work because he is the show. As a "team" owner, the best ones know how to build trust and respect within the organization to get the best performance from confident athletes, coaches and support staff.
Being on the firing line may get results in real estate sales, but too much intervention with a team means only a''kissers and weasels will hang around.
Not good when a member of the media is first in line.- Posted 01/05/08 at 1:17 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver and Elsewhere, Canada writes: Iain MacIntyre's love-fest columns about Dave Nonis in the Vancouver Sun were waaaaay over the top. Nonis was a failure. The flaws in the roster were shown plain and large in the 2007 playoffs and he did nothing to fix them. Failed. Failure. He failed, Iain.
With the recent debate over the Nonis firing and Gillis hiring, I have come to agree that Aquilini did the right thing. After being canned, Nonis said on the record the Canucks were close to a Stanley Cup with his "plan". Gillis says bluntly that they are not close. Gillis is right, Nonis is wrong.- Posted 01/05/08 at 1:25 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Larry Hill from Canada writes: I am with Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver on this one.
Nonis gambled by staying pat with no trade at the deadline when my wife's mother could see we did not have enough scoring power on the front lines.
But the best course of action after making a call like that is to ignore the so called experts.... especially those in the media. To call the media up to complain is like waiving scotch and steak under their noses. It turns them on not off.
Makes those "I told you sos" so much sweeter when success rolls in.- Posted 01/05/08 at 6:01 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Are you suggesting they should have traded Edler plus for a decent scoring forward. That worked out well for Atlanta last year. Coburn's 25 minutes a night of PP, PK and regular strength action are barely noticeable these playoffs. Stupid Nonis. He should have sold the farm for short term gain.
That's a great long term strategy for building hockey teams. Hire and fire Gm's based on year to year performance. Bring in Waddell he's willing to sacrifice the future of his team for short term game. Vancouver fan should get what he wants and deserves.
Sorry Gillis is the going to be the best GM ever. How can you argue with is track record. Wait a sec......- Posted 01/05/08 at 6:58 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver and Elsewhere, Canada writes: Nonis failed at 3 opportunities to make any appreciable improvement:
- Trade deadline February 2007
- Off-Season 2007
- Trade deadline February 2008
Agree, the rumoured price of Edler plus Kesler for Brad Richards was way to high, but I would argue Dallas gave up a lot less than that and the Stars are true contenders now.- Posted 02/05/08 at 12:21 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

B.C. Expat from Canada writes: It's been said a billion times already: Tampa wanted a goalie. Dallas had that to offer, Vancouver did not. That, and only that, is why the Canucks were never realistically able to get Brad Richards. (Who wouldn't have made a difference anyway, unless Luongo turned his season around).
