  1. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: This is a 20 year old kid who is and will continue to be a great player.

No matter what happens, Carey Price already has my respect for winning the Gold Medal for Team Canada and the Calder Cup last year...

A few years ago when Carolina made a run, everyone forgets that Cam Ward stunk in a few games, but nevertheless, I am certain that we will see the embittered trolls whose teams have already been eliminated from the playoffs come on this thread and spew their venom about Price...

    Cheers.
  2. John Stanton from Canada writes: Cam Ward stinks now. Not a great example. Price is overinflated. Let's talk in five years to see how he is doing. My team, the Penguins, are doing fine thanks.
  3. Phoenix Thorpe from Canada writes: This is more of a case of the coaching staff not being able to adjust to the tighter checking of the playoffs and devise a game plan to compensate for it.
They've had 10 games to figure out what the opposition is doing to shut down the powerplay, but haven't come up with any definitive alternate strategy.
Make some adjustments for the love of God and quit making excuses or blaming bad luck or bounces for what has been a very spotty and inconsistent effort from Montreal this playoff series.
They played one great game against Boston in the opener and 40 minutes of solid hockey in the seventh game.
Gainey didn't help the cause either with his pre playoff comments that have raised the expectation levels beyond the realistic levels of such a young team.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

How exactly is that Bob Gainey's fault?

Gainey and the coaching staff of the Habs' goal is to inspire the team to exceed expectations...

Their goal is not to aim low just so that the team can reach "realistic levels..."

Agree with the idea that the team needs to play more consistently.

The series is 2 -1..... Go Habs Go!

BTW Did you know that Crosby and Malkin are 20 and 19 years old respectively ?

    Cheers.
  5. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Check this out hab fans.... I guarantee you will be amused.

  6. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: For the record... again....

I have said all along that Gaineys plan is not about this year..... he has no expectation of getting out of the second round... certainly isn't expecting to get out of the third round.

He has over 20 million in cap space and only one UFA of consequence (Streit) and one RFA ... (one of the brothers).

Ryder isn't playing.... he is the other UFA and they obviously have given up on him.

For Gainey... this is all about experience and next year.

    Cheers
  7. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: It's the playoffs in Montreal, Scot...

    Anything can happen...

The Habs can beat the Flyers when they bring their A game...

I wouldn't be writing the Habs' epitaph just yet...

    Cheers.
  8. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: I'm not Robert.... hell I'm still cheering for them.

I need an excuse to go to Montreal (4 hour drive).... I would need a gun at my head to go to Philidelphia.

    Cheers
  9. Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: I am pleased to see Mr. Demers sees things my way. The only problem is that young Mr.Price should have watched Game 3 from the bench. The damage is done and the Habs staff screwed up. Might as well start him tonight
  10. John Stanton from Canada writes: You're right Scot.

R Miller... the glory days are gone forever. It makes me laugh that people try to bring history into play with sports. It's a different league now. Montreal doesnt have a lock on all the best french canadian players (as Briere is proving) and they are not the cream of the crop anymore.
  11. mike hand from philly, United States writes: The habs should be up 2 games to 1 ,but your goalie has been horrible so far. As far as our fans in Philly were angry because we haven't had a championship since 1983( 76ers), but booing the national anthems is just wrong.
  12. Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: Mike Hand- I think your fans act the way they do because they are a bunch of working-class, jingoistic (look it up) thugs whose brains have been addled by a steady diet of cheese steaks adminstered since conception. And I assume most were conceived in the parking lot of the Flyers rink.
  13. j q from Canada writes: If the Habs fall to the Flyers it will be primarily due to the power outage with the man advantage. The leading power play during the regular season hasn't look the same since game 1 of the first round. The Flyers' preference towards an in your face approach physically and after each whistle provides ample power play time. If the Habs aren't capitalizing and making them pay, the Flyer shenanigans will continue and the skill of the top two forward lines on the Habs become less effective. BTW, IMHO Koivu is showing why he's captain and Price could not be blamed for any of the three goals in Game 3. Although, he may have gone down a tad early on the last goal.
  14. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: j q; Totally agree with you on Koivu and Price... watch out for Steve Allan though.

    Cheers
  15. j q from Canada writes: Hey Scotty, Penguins vs. Habs, or Penguins vs. Flyers? Either will be great series' to watch. The former will be a wonderful display of skill/speed, and latter would be a bit of slugfest. The last few games between the PA rivals, produced battles which almost led to bench clearings. It might prove to be a tremendous draw in the U.S.! Richards vs. Crosby!
  16. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: j q;

    Bet on a Pennsylvania final.

Interesting thing will be they are both mainly playoff neophytes. The only eastern team with serious playoff experience is the Rangers.... and they are toast.

Two totally different philosophies as far as game goes.

Which one will I bet on? Neither... Stanley cup is going west this year... unless they totally beat each other to a pulp during the conference finals.

    Cheers
  17. Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: Price or Halak tonight? I think they are forced to start Price. He should have sat out the last game. He is the goalie of the future. Do you go with him to the bitter end? Or do you try for a short-term gain with Halak to try and survive this series?
  18. tom h from Edmonton, Canada writes: Why is Price getting all the flak??? Ok, he wasn't great, but if his team can't score on a 2 minute 5 on 3 advantage, then I'm pretty sure he's not the only one to blame.
  19. Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: Scot Loucks- Wherever the Cup is going, it is sure not heading north this year. I though there was a chance. Maybe for the "Cent Anniversaire" season. Sorry about the fractured francais
  20. Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: Tom H- flak because he is the most visible problem on the ice to the casual observer. Sophisticated fans such as yourself realize there is much more to the situation.

    Cheers- (ala loucks)
  21. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Personally I would start Price tonight, if he faulters, ride Halak as far as he takes you.

I think most teams with a quality backup such as Halak (LA should be looking to swing this guy from MTL) would probably be starting him tonight.

HOwever, with such an emphasis on player development in MTL this year, I have a hard time thinking Halak will make any starts down the stretch
  22. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: If the Habs win tonight, this series will be tied 2-2... with 2 out of the next 3 games in Montreal...

Agree that the Habs getting by the Pens would be very tough, but what an exciting series that would be to watch.... What with all that skating, finesse passing.... You know? Actual TALENT on the ice...

It wouldn't be the Philly way, I know, but c'est la vie.
  23. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Hi Robert.... did you get a chance to check out that link? If not try www.philly.com and search Donnellon... you will be amused.

    Cheers
  24. Seb D from Ottawa, Canada writes: Phoenix: The last game wasn't so bad either. Normally, when you outshoot the other team 34-14, you win. Normally.
  25. Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Habs vs. Pens would be great...no doubt.

However, nothing would make me happier than watching Sid the Kid light it up in Philly. Remember the whole thing about Crosby being a whiner and diver initially started in Philthy, when the realized that an 18-yr old kid was constantly lighting them up like a Xmas tree.

It turns out, Crosby has scored more points against Philthy than any other team in the league. He not only relishes in the atmosphere but he thrives in it.....no matter how tough these Flyers and their fans think they are.
  26. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Interesting stat Billings.... did not know that.

Might just influence my pick for the Pennsylvania series.

    Cheers.
  27. J K GALBRAITH from Canada writes: Maybe Price is just suffering from the G&M Saturday profile jinx similar to being on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
  28. Jude Hannaford from Canada writes: Scot, .I am starting to wonder if you aren't getting fifty cents a hit for that article.

    ;)

P.S. I know you bet on Philly, but enough of the bad vibes already.
  29. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Sorry Jude.... just remember that I never win my bets...

Hell I bet on the Leafs making the playoffs ..... to the tune of about $350.....

I won't be unhappy if the habs actually win this thing. Surprised.... but not unhappy.

    Cheers
  30. steve allan from Canada writes: Put Halak in. Price is not a fighter, he's okay for the regular season but struggles in the playoffs because he doesn't have the psyche and character of a money goalie.

This shouldn't be a training session for Carey Price. Who knows whether or not the Habs even make the playoffs next year, let alone make it to the second round.

The future is now, not next year.
  31. Y NOT from Canada writes: The Habs are not winning for the following reasons. Please note where I believe Carey Price's goaltending places.

#1- WHAT HAPPENED TO THE #1 POWERPLAY
#2- POOR FIVE ON FIVE PLAY
#3- THE INABILITY TO CLEAR THE FLYERS OUT FROM PRICE'S GRILL
#4- PRICE'S LACK OF BIG TIME SAVES

To place the weight on the kids shoulders is reaching at best. Do you actually think Huet would be doing any better?
