Who knows what he really thinks?.Ford we really know what he thinks. AB is another mystery man-no feelings expressed ever.Jose may be a lot more savy than we think-I think he'll be gone at the first good offer and BC will explain they could not pay that much money for him for the good of the team.
  2. Ryan Sadler from Boston, United States writes: Take the Fall???

Grange, are you kidding me? This is exactly the kind of reactionary bullshit that leaves Toronto sports fans in a constant state of disappointment. Drumming up outrage over a 1st round exit screams hack journalism when it regards a team assembled 2 years ago.

What would have been a successful season for a team with a core built around a 24 yr old w/o support? 2 rounds into the playoffs? would that satisfy? Lets get serious.

Championship teams take time, and I have full faith in both Mitchell and BC to figure it out over the next few years.
  3. Joseph Daniel from Canada writes: One is PRESIDENT, the other is coach. One has pretty much atonomy in his job whereas the other has to report to him. I don't think there is a fall to be taken here. This club probably played to its level at this point in time. Bosh was right in saying AB has to get better. The Raps will be a better team if AB gets better. If he is a bust this team will eventually be a bust. There are no miracle draft picks when you draft at 17. They pretty much tied the short term success of this team to AB.
  4. Larry Boutilier from Sydney, Canada writes: ...
    Grange doesn't mention
there are teams with much better players than the Raps
who are out after round one
like Dallas and Phoenix and Denver
who lost to better teams , just like T.R.
It wasn't the coach who missed so many shots
and wasnt Mitch who didn't box out Howard
and let opposing players walk into paint
He coached well, the players make good golfers.
Raptors had as good a season as possible with present team.

  7. John Nicholson from Oshawa, writes: Unfortunately the Toronto media is much happier to tell stories, and speculate, than report the news, which is what newspapers were meant to be. A couple of examples of fantasy reporting "Brian Burke coming to the Leafs for $5/6 mil", and "Mark Iavoroni as Colangelos man to coach the Raptors last year before he signed Sam Mitchell for 4yrs/3guaranteed for $16mil.
  8. uncle rukus from Mississauga, Canada writes: Sam Mitchell is in a bad spot right now as Mike D'Antonio is out as the Suns coach and it no secret that BC would love to bring in his old coach to coach the Raps. Sam has to sell what he will do next year to turn this years disaster of a 2nd half and quick playoff exit around. I for one think Sam is gone and D'Antonio is a very good coach who will not be unemployed very long.
  9. A non-Imus from Canada writes: Thank you, Ryan Sadler and Larry Boutilier! Wasn't Mike D'Antoni the same coach that Colangelo walked out on in the run-up to the playoffs a couple of years ago? Besides, D'Antoni has the same number of NBA titles on his resume as Mitchell, with much better talent to boot! No thanks.
  10. Greg Ast from Nanoose Bay, Canada writes: Many truths in today's comments - the NBA is very evenly stocked with great talents, and so coaching is a big factor in success and in failure.

I need to add that coaching in 2008 needs to take into account the different cultures from which each team draws their talent.

For example, some of the euros on the Toronto team need to be mentored by a coach who understands their hot buttons. Jose Calderone is not one of these euros - he self motivates, I think. But Andreas Bargnani may be a youngster who needs to understand why he is being paid millions of dollars. I suggest that Brian and Sam find a carrot or a whip, whichever is needed for the young maestro.

  12. Noel n from oakville, Canada writes: Albert S,
As per usual you never see the trees for the forest. Detroit has a ton of big men with more skill than the raptors. Besides if you bothered to notice Howard was injured before half time.
The thing you should have noticed was how Billup's dominated and totally contained Nelson. Something neither Ford or the beloved Jose could do.
