  1. Z A from Toronto, Canada writes: Seriously what’s up with Mitchell’s suit?!! Its done folks… now its BC turn to go to work… If Smitch or TJ are living in Toronto come October, i wont cheer for the Raptors! I will pray for the leafs!
  2. theo m from Canada writes: I agree with Z A's post. I stopped following the team closely when TJ came back from his injury. This team just never seems coached. No motion or sense of purpose in the offense. I see streetball players in the school yard play with more discipline. Like come on when TJ is dribbling in circles in the backcourt while the others on the floor stand and watch, is this a practiced play?

What was Sam's game plan in the 4th? Just jack up shots at will under pressure. Even their bread and butter pick and role wasn't used.

  3. ah sails from Canada writes: for sure TJ must be gone however must be done...selfish player not enough of a point guard mentality for a little guy..Mitchell's ok.. would help to have more than 1 NBA starter on the roster
  4. Bubba The Pas Huskies from The Pas Manitoba, Canada writes: Say good night Dick...
Under skilled but valiant effort. I commend the team for trying. Nothing wrong with going out on your shield rather than a whimper.
I too am looking forward to swing men who can create their own shot, a PG who runs the show consistently, and a big centre who knows how to rebound. Hang onto Bargs for one more year please.
I think Smitch's tenure is done. The show has run its course and time for someone new to get the troops attention. Same with TJ. Hope he has a good healthy career somewhere else and we can get something for him. BC will be like a kid in a candy store with lots of cap room to play with. Hope the market is kind to us.
To all you yackers on this line throughout the year, cheers and looking forward to reading your thoughts (even you Roj) come next year. I'll be hiking the west coast trail in a few days and the Raptors will be a distant memory...

  5. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: Sure ZA, go from the team that at least made the playoffs to the team everyone is cringing about. Good idea. Good luck with that.

Seriously though, what is up with all the TJ haters? He is a guard, and did the best he could. (I didn't see the game tonight though).

The Raps got beat by better big men in this series. Howard and Co. were too much for Bosh and friends. Thats it.

Coleangelo could improve the guard position ...sure.

But the big fix is getting more versatile big men to play the 3-4-5.

Bosh can only do so much himself.

Oh, those big men he needs? It would be nice if they could play D' too!
  6. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: Wow...looks like I am the only TJ fan...ah well.
  7. HC Bargs from Canada writes: Ah well. Missed the game, and in fact, most of the series. I'm anxious to see what Colangelo will do this summer. I'd like to see some big changes.
  8. Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: new york posted a piece about mitchell going to the knicks and d'antoni coming to t.o. if he gets bounced from phoenix.

agree with some of the previous posts...this game was won on second chance points and howard being a beast down low. the raptors settled for too many perimeter shots and left bosh alone in the paint to fend off the magic's bigs.

colangelo will have a busy off season to be sure. here's an idea...what would humphries been able to do down low on the post?? perhaps bang a little more with howard? granted u lose on the offensive side but would it not have been better than what happened out there?

a season with so much promise that quickly went south. very disappointing.
  9. J L from Canada writes: Too much Howard ,too many rebounds given 55 What 55 You'v e got to be kidding, and too much depth, for a mediocre Raptor squad to handle .The coach can't guard Mr Howard and obviously either could Mr Bosh who frankly was manhandled by Mr Howard..Mr Mitchell did not give up 55 Rebounds and the coach did not have the personel to match the depth of Orlando or for that matter the better teams in the league all year long.I trust the management will now overall this team and correct the numerous weaknesses that were apparent, not only against a team that will probably not get past the next round. but against the better teams in the league for the past two seasons plus.In my opinion the GM should be open to any offer for any player on this team.to correct those weaknesses. He has at least two in Mr Bosh and Calderon who should be of Interest to a number of teams willing to part with quality players and draft picks in order to obtain their services.
  10. Roger S from Canada writes: Fire Sam Mitchell and trade TJ Ford. End of story.
  11. BB Freak from Canada writes: Eloquent and to the point! Roger S.
  12. andy c from Canada writes: well that's a wrap. i still think garbo would have made a huge difference in this series but we'll never know as i think the raptors core will be much different come next season; BC has to get bosh some CONSISTENT help in the off season on both ends of the floor; here's a hint at the kind of help the raptors need, when was the last time a raptor had a triple double?
  13. Jordan Pohn from writes: The season was a mild failure, sure, but they weren't expected to succeed once Garbajosa was confirmed to be out for the season. The last time the Raptors had a season of regression (was it '02-'03 when they were nicked by Detroit?), they were even worse the following season and they were so awful for a good number of years that I wouldn't pay to watch them. In order to attract the bandwagon fans that control TV viewership, it is absolutely critical to the long term health of this organization that they win a playoff series next year. I expect to see a new coach and a couple of veterans brought in as Brian goes 'all-in' attempting to temper this good-natured team into a winner. Highlight of the season was definitely the Chris Bosh videos - no matter where you think his talent ceiling is, he's definitely more of an asset to the Toronto sports scene than any other pro athlete here at the moment. I hope he lands himself a series of commercials next year...and some playoff success.
  14. Tom Richards from Canada writes: My Thoughts:
    1) Bosh was playing like a pansy out there. Post up and drive to the hoop. Too bad he was afraid of Howard.
    2) How about crashing the boards, anyone! Basic basketball, follow your shot
    3) Take the easy pass, and play, play basics.
    4) Play big ball, get some size against their size.
    5) Bring in Leo Routens (sp). Sam M is not a winner, he is an evasive confrontive, whinner. He and his pained face out there
Ford has to realize he has no future outside Toronto, and once Sam M is gone so is he. Are they related because Mitchell plays him like he is his kid and they are in house league.
Time for a good house cleaning, get a power forward with some power like a Stodimire (sp , sorry).
  15. Michael Enright from Toronto, Canada writes: Even though it was an up-and-down season, I enjoyed watching the raptors immensely, but it can be very frustrating at times.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mike D'Antoni (of Phoenix) coaching the raptors next season. He's worked under both Colangelo and Maurizio Gheradini (he coached Benetton Treviso from 2000-02).

    Hopes for next season:
    - a 100% Garbajosa; the team desperately needs a banger and grunt player under the glass.
    - a dedicated coach for Bargnani; considering Dwight Howard was given Patrick Ewing and only now really becoming the complete package (after four-seasons), just demonstrates that you need time and strong coaching to develop a strong five position.
    - continued development of Moon; this guy has so much raw talent and heart
    - more consistency from Kapono and Delfino; great off the bench players, but they could both run hot-or-cold depending upon the game
  16. Jason J from Markham, Canada writes: Raps did NOT seem to believe they could win this series, no energy even in this 5th game.

They seem to be so intimidated by Mr. Superman that SMitch even changed starters with 3 bigs to defence the paint when the series begun, and we all saw the result - way too many open 3s for the Magics. Same for all 5 games.

Did SMitch ever pay attention to what Spurs' Pop is doing? Hack the Shark! So why not Hack the Superman? With Rash or Hump?

Anyway, it is over. Finally comes the cleanup time!
  17. albert strauss from Toronto,Ontario, Canada writes: While we are swinging the axe is there any way we can replace those two shills Leo and Chuck with some experienced analysts like coach Armstrong who really know the game and are not constrained from being frank about the players. Those two are just paid cheerleaders dressed up as commentators.
  18. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: Jason...hacking Howard would have backfired...he is shooting 70% from the line.

    Peace.
  19. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: Tom Richards.......very good points esp. I believe big against big...Bosh is a light weight....not going to cut it.
  20. Rich Chan from Vancouver, Canada writes: Mitchell must go after this. His complaints before was that his roster was not good enough to compete. Well, as Colangelo pointed out, our team got better from last year, and now they weren't utilized properly. Mitchell was given an entire year to figure out what he wanted to do with the roster. Then when TJ got injured from Horford, you could clearly tell by default that his best option were all the people that weren't injured playing, but he's too stubborn to realize that. Bye, bye TJ. Never have I been so frustrated watching your game and your speed that gets the best of your ball handling most of the time, that allows you to flop all over the place leading to turnovers. We need to get a better coach for Bargs. This season just seemed like a nightmare for some reason.
  21. immi d from richmond hill, Canada writes: Waive Bargs! 7 rebounds in 5 games, 35% fg in the series?!?!?.
  22. Marcus M from Vancouver, Canada writes: I think the Raptors biggest win streak of the season was no more than 5 games. Something with the chemistry just didn't seem right this year. Maybe it was the minutes being divided up to too many players? i don't know but some parts need to be added before next season for sure. One is a wing player who can create his own shot, two is a tough rebounder who can help out bosh on defence and on the boards. I still think there's hope for Bargs, I still see him as a turkoglu type of player if only he could improve his ball handling. I don't see him as being a centre anymore.
  23. elwyn jennings from Canada writes: The biggest losers aren't the Raptors, the biggest losers are many of the posters above.

Bosh was playing like a pansy out there????? hahahahahahahaha DUDE! Bosh played his heart out. He posted up and drove to the hoop; and who isn't afraid of Howard, especially when the officiating is as poor as it was in this series??

Play big ball???? hahahahahaha, that worked GREAT in the first game, didn't it???????? Smitch should get fired because he didn't play big ball...hahahahahaha...

No doubt it is time for a good house cleaning: first place to start is with stupid fans.

sure, raptors should get a power forward with some power, a guy like stoudemire...except raptors have a guy named bosh, who is just as good, and perhaps better.
  24. R 27 from Canada writes: Raptor's TO-DO list:

    1. Trade TJ Ford. He wasn't raised to have that solid character and basketball IQ of a true point guard like a Nash, CP3, D. Williams or John Stockton.
    2. Sam Mitchell will not be fired in the off-season but under very close eyes until half way of the next season only.
    3. Put on the trading blocks; Barganani, Joey Graham, Jamario Moon, Maceo Baston, Kapono and sign players who like to get physical and by nature....are HUNGRY for rebounds.
  25. Sean O'Reilly from Canada writes: Disappointing season......

Lets hope next season brings some change, not a doubt there as the team has a capable leader.

.....and it pathetic to see the first two comments say they will not follow the team if they don't make their changes. You both are full of it because you're both typical irrational know it all fans.

Go raps! See you in the fall.
  26. Allan Wexler from Canada writes: Albert - I agree that the commentators are ugly. Need some new blood there. If I were a gutty GM (and BC is) I would consider trading Bosh for the 1st pick in the draft and another starting player. It's a drastic move but the Raps need more than 1 player and Bosh could bring those kind of players. As well, while he is relatively youg, his body is not and I'm not convinced that he will not start having injury problems. He is a very fine player but not the kind of player to carry a team on his shoulders. he would have been a terrific compliment to a guy like Vince Carter if Carter could have played hard on a consistent basis.
  27. Uncle Elmer from Canada writes: Smitch doesn't seem to know his players. He should've been a hardass with TJ and a softie with Bargs instead of the other way around. He should've created more plays for Kapono during the regular season. He should've allowed Hump to develop more. And so on and so forth. In any event, I hope BC can lure Mike D'Antoni, Mike Fratello, Jeff Van Gundy or another proven and available coach to Toronto in the offseason. I also hope he can land one rebounding big who is satisfied with getting only garbage baskets, and one swing man who can create his own shot. If all this happens, and Garbo comes back healthy, I think the team will be in great shape.
  28. True North from The Free West, Canada writes:
The good news is that Toronto continues to suffer.
  29. K N from Canada writes: Fire SMITCH -- what kind of coach unveils a brand new (never-tried) line-up to start a playoff series. Rasho really came on towards the end of the season, so I do not know why he did not start. Worst comes to worst, he hacks Howard and uses up some fouls. Play Hump more and let Bargs sit on the bench unless he starts to rebound and play like a big man.

And TJ, have fun somewhere else. Perhaps he could go to the Mavs to eventually take over when Jason Kidd retires in a couple of years. In the meantime, he could learn what it means to be a true point-guard from one of the best. Fantasy trade -- TJ and Bargs for Nowitzki
  30. Toby Maloney from Canada writes: Sure Bosh didn't have a good game, but do you think it might have something to do with him not getting any help on the boards and in the low block for most of the series? That they were forced to play small ball not because it was a strategic decision but because our great draft prospect had two fouls in the first 12 seconds and then stopped trying on defence?

And someone wants to get Bargnani an individual coach for next year, but the problem is there aren't any coaches that can teach trying. Here's an idea, let's get him the coach he needs to develop ON ANOTHER TEAM!

Seriously, Raptors don't have to dig around in Europe for overlooked talent as well as hope someone shows up at the free agent camp, it now has talent to trade with, to get some defensive and rebounding muscle and another starter. Bargnani plus TJ and some benchwarmers would get Raptors that.
  31. emoncada Toronto from Canada writes: good point Sean and the other posters with the right attitude... for the fan that knows it all... well you shoud run the raptors org and apply for the job. here is the tip (oh i am sorry you don't need it because you know it all, right?) walk into the Maple Leaf office and apply for the job. you can certainly see if you is the real losers here, is the raps or the posters? i like what i saw in the last minute of the 4th where the raps didn't quit fighting - and yes including smitch. however i definitely agree that changes need to be made in the raps org. meanwhile let's enjoy the rest of the playoff because next season is still far away from now and they are still playing this season. i am impressed with the hawks and it is hard to believe they evened the series with boston. now it really bugs me of passing with horford and picked bargs instead, uhmmm. anyway if boston can pass the round 1, i think it is going to be boston vs. lakers or spurs (hornets is the darkhose). it is going to be a very intense playoff... so let's enjoy this. i hope stern will change the formato of the playoff next year. he should remove the east and west division and get the seeding from the number of wins i.e. 1vs16, 2vs15,3vs17 etc.... only my opinion. would be nice to see this change and by applying this change what happened to warriors this season will not happen again or to any .500 team. any takers?
  32. One For All All For One from Canada writes: I'm not sure about this big rebounding center your talking about. For the future our starting center, unless the team makes wholesale changes, is bargs.

The idea of trading Bosh is interesting. He isn't quite a 'carry' player the same way Lebron or Paul is - but he sure is a hard worker. In the long term I don't see him and Bargnani working out though - unless Bargs learns to get defensive rebounds at some point.

The raptors are a good role player away from being a threat in the east, perhaps. But, in terms of contending for a title, they need at least another all-star since Bosh can't do this on his own. If you look at the west we'd be ranked 11 or 12 with Sacremento and Portland.

Anyways, if we don't blow up the team, I'm hoping for JR Smith, or perhaps Peitrus (can't spell that one). If we want a center who just wants rebounds we should develop hump.

  36. j s from offseasonville, Canada writes: ugh...brutal end to what was a fun season for a while...it was like our season went straight up, peaked around feb and then went straight down without even a hint of a second wind...brutal...i called raps in 6...shows what i know...but being fearless as well as ignorant, i predict that on opening day next year we will have shipped out 10-11 of the 15 players currently signed to the team. I also don't think there is a single untouchable guy on the team, except perhaps for Bargs, for better or worse...i enjoyed reading everyone's comments...see you in september... btw can't understand why when we're being destroyed on the boards by a beast we didn't ever try using our biggest best rebounder, who is undoubtedly Hump...later...
  37. Joe Calgarian from Canada writes: Wow Raptors didn't make the playoffs, Leafs didn't make the playoffs, Argos blew it....does it just suck living in TO?
  38. Greg Ast from Nanoose Bay, Canada writes: I watched the game and sometimes it hurt to watch but I have to say this:

    - the Raptors are a talented team of men who left it on the floor, working hard until the end in Orlando

    - TJ Ford is an excellent talent who needs more coaching - the point guard position is somewhat like pitching in baseball it it needs a specialized coach

    - Chris Bosh is a warrior who can play on my team forever

    - Anthony Parker is a special, special player who will get even better

    - the euros, especially the Spaniards, need help and it behooves BC to find them help to acclimatize to the American-centric NBA. They are also exceptional athletes. Heck, even Stevie Nash had to learn how to deal with the pressures of the NBA before he rose to the top!

Thanks for the great season, Chris and AP and Jose and Jamario. Now I can get serious about MY golf game!
  39. Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: "Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: new york posted a piece about mitchell going to the knicks and d'antoni coming to t.o. if he gets bounced from phoenix." Never heard that, but that would definitley be interesting. I'm actually one of the few who back Sam Mitchell. I think he's a great coach, and he got as much as he could from this lineup. This team is purely a jump shooting team, and as the saying goes 'Live by the jump shot, die by the jump shot'. The biggest issue the team faced this year was the Jose/TJ debate. It's obvious one has to go. I'm with most of the posters who think TJ needs to go. The other issue is what to do with Andrea? Do you cut your losses now and accept this guy is a pylon, or do you nurture him into the next coming of Dirk Nowitski? I don't have the answer, but I say you try and be patient with him, even though at times he makes you want to pull your hair out. The other thing I've noticed over the year, and especially in the playoffs is the play of Chris Bosh, and almost as importantly his intangibles. The guy is a superstar and he cares, you can see it in his face how much he wants to win. I don't think he should be ripped, as I think he did everything he could to help them win. Anyways, those are my $0.02.
  40. Jason J from Markham, Canada writes: As a professional player, it's fine to have your ego and want to be a starter, but should get your starter position by playing BETTER, not playing WORSE to HIJACK the team, and publicly shows the wrong attitude on the court.

And it's more frustrating to see SMitch gave in on this matter. Where is his often-quoted belief that the performance dictates the minutes?

The whole team was ruined, chemistry was damaged, never seen their boasted back-court edge over Nelson in this series.
  41. Andrew James from Toronto, Canada writes: Calderon just said to a Spanish newspaper: "Siento que tengo un reto con los Raptors y con la ciudad," which could be translated as "I feel like I have a commitment to the Raptors and the city (of Toronto). "Reto" means "challenge,"

    http://www.marca.com/edicion/marca/baloncesto/nba/playoffs08/es/desarrollo/1117551.html

Guys, I can tell I wouldn't sign the extension till TJ is gone. Is one or the other, very simple.
  42. R Lube from Toronto, Canada writes: Off season to-do list:

    1. Trade TJ for Ron Artest. He brings toughness, leadership and defence. Plus Sacramento needs a PG. Will be good for slowing guys like Turkgolou, Pierce, LeBron etc. No more mediocre talents like Mike Dunleavy scorching the Raps for 36 points.

    2. Draft/sign a big tough rebounder who can start alongisde Bosh. Humphries is a free agent I believe so let him walk as he's undersized, although I like his energy. Bargs can then be the first option on the second unit. He plays better when he's NOT playing with Bosh.

    3. Draft/sign a slasher who can create off the dribble. None of Parker, Kapono or Moon can do this currently.

I'd keep Mitchell but have him on a short leash.
  43. D D from Canada writes: A couple things...

D'Antoni??? Seriously?? The problem is lack of defense and rebounding...D'Antoni teams have no interest in it either...why take on a coach with the same coaching philosophy as the current problems...Do you see Phoenix getting anywhere fast in the playoffs either?

Second, Emoncada writes: "now it really bugs me of passing with horford and picked bargs instead, uhmmm." Kinda funny how you bash people for being losers yet can't even get players in the right draft. I think if you look you will see that Horford and Bargnani were not in the same draft.
  44. One For All All For One from Canada writes: Uhh, R Lube, Sacramento doesn't need a point guard, they are happy with Urdrich (thats why they traded Bibby). I think Artest is a free agent anyways, so they couldn't trade him.

We don't have any cap room or exception to sign a slasher. Also, if I understand correctly, you want us to aquire two starting small forwards? (Artest and a "slasher")?

And Humphries isn't going to be a free agent for a long time, he signed an extension.

    Anyways...
  45. Rich Chan from Vancouver, Canada writes: Sigh, the season is over, but I hope there's a lot of issues to deal with in the off-season that are dealt with. Colangelo is pretty good with dealing with filling up the gaps that are required to be filled up. So now we need a slasher, and the reason why we lost to Orlando is because they had both Turk and Lewis slashing. I don't understand why Mitchell never turned Parker into more of a slasher, instead of having Bosh drive to the hoop, him being the only person to do it, and him being slow at doing it in the first place.
  46. Edwin Green from NS, Canada writes: Raps need a superman or two all good teams have then to get to a winning play of raps just play out take a look at the wining teams raps could not beat then thay are to strong
  47. R Lube from Toronto, Canada writes: One For All All For One: Never suggested we get two starting small forwards, just two players with those skills (defender and slasher). One can come from the draft if we have no cap room. If Artest is a free agent and we can fit him in then I say go for it - otherwise trade TJ for an equivalent player.

Didn't realize Hump was locked up - too bad. Point is Bargs would be better off on the second unit with a rebounder helping Bosh.
  48. M Spiker from Ottawa, Canada writes: Yes the Barney's (thanks to BC) will be over the cap once they make the qualifying offer to JC ($3.2M). The NBA CBA makes them count their qualifying offers to RFA's (CD and JC) against the cap until the contract is resolved. This is to stop teams from signing FAs and then using exceptions to re-sign their RFA's.

Unless...and if pigs could fly...Rasho declines his option.

Unfortunately CD is probably not going to get an offer sheet (too many FAs, not enough team's with cap space, and his play is too inconsistant). He is going to be a Barney next year and taking up cap space. Hopefully BC won't follow Doug Smith's brilliant advice and re-sign him to 3 years for $10M to be their "ninth" man.
  49. M Spiker from Ottawa, Canada writes: BC...all will be forgiven if you do two things this off-season...1) fire Chuck Sworseky and 2) insist that Leo concentrate full time on coaching the national team and that he can only come back if he gets at least one win in the Olympic qualifier for his analyst cred (in other words kick his sorry butt to the curb).
  50. andy c from Canada writes: M Spiker; in regards to Doug Smith's contract suggestion, if CD does sign for 9 mill for 3 years that's about the equivlent of hump's contract? the ugly cycle of salmons, jones, dixon, and primo is finally coming to an end (that's 3mil/year for some pretty substandard talent)
  51. Bruce Spence from Toronto, Canada writes: Once again we see that most, not all, Raptor fans are "in denial".
The truth is simply that the team is not good enough.
They don't have the talent & it's BC's fault, not SM.
SM is not a miracle worker, but he is the reigning COY.
Bosh is the only legitimate starter & if he's smart he'll demand a trade & get out of town before the team does even worse next year.
    Raptors already peaked last year.
    It's all downhill from here.
There was a lot of unsubstantiated hype coming from Raptor fans that the Raptors matched up well against Orlando.
The truth is that Orlando was licking their chops when they saw that they were matched up against the Raptors.
Orlando knew that they were far superior to the Raptors.
It's time for Raptor fans "in denial" to face the truth.
  52. emoncada Toronto from Canada writes: DD: good catch... what i actually meant was roy of portland and you're right horford is 07 draft while bargs was 06 draft. my apology! imagine this combo: JC, roy, cb4, villanueva and nestrovic... i think this squad is solid
  53. albert strauss from Toronto,Ontario, Canada writes: Why cdnt we get Larry Brown ? A perfect choice to run our show even with the same players
