Tyler Wilson from Toronto, Canada writes: How come there are less comments when they win? :)
They'll be fine as long as they start scoring people when they're in scoring position. Which, as someone who plays baseball can attest, will come around eventually provided they stop pressing for it to happen (which is all the more difficult when the fans are on your case).
Other than that, fundamentally, on paper, the jays have a lineup which can compete in the East. Although I'm generally not a fan of Gibbons, I do like his small ball approach, especially when they are struggling to score.
No need to panic....yet. :)

Three hours since the end of the game, and no posts. If they had lost the band wagoneers would have been here in 30 seconds.- Posted 27/04/08 at 8:03 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Litsch put forth a strong effort today. Good to see.
Also good to see Rolen having an immediate impact. 3 games, 4 rbi's. I see Mr. Glaus hit his 1st home run of the year today too.
Go Jays.- Posted 27/04/08 at 8:12 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

SY GIL from TO, Canada writes: Trading Gloss for Rolen was a good move by JP as he seems to be a gamer like Eckstein, something people like Wells and Rios are not. Rolen has had trouble eventually with his last two teams so there is still a question mark. Don't get too excited about winning one game from the lowly Royals who were on a 7 game losing streak when they started playing the Jays. It's a good thing Meche didn't take JP's bait; otherwise, he could have been the 2nd Frank Thomas as Meche has gone south.

Robin of the Hood from hammatown, Canada writes: Good to have Rolen back in the lineup. It's also nice that he's contributing immediately. Hopefully Wells and Overbay take a lesson from him. The Jays still have quite the hole to dig themselves out of, but if the hitting troubles are behind them, and they play as a cohesive unit, then they'll be competitive.

Cole H. from Toronto, Canada writes: Gil Meche has actually been pretty good for the Royals overall. He's had a rough go of it so far this year but when you get terrible run support, your win/loss record isn't going to be pretty (& win / loss records are a poor way to measure a pitchers effectiveness) .

Fred Draper from Kingston, Canada writes: A week ago, we were looking at Scott Rolen's arrival as the last piece of the puzzle. Now we're looking for him to be the saviour. So far so good..
Scott's one tough looking dude. He also has a history of difficulties with his manager.
Memo to Gibby: Kindly refrain from challenging him, the way you did with Hillenbrand and Lilly. Dollars to donuts you get the short end.- Posted 28/04/08 at 5:00 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Allan Wexler from Canada writes: Vernon Wells may be THE problem on this team. I would move him way down in the order until he starts hitting with runners in scoring position. I don't see anything wrong with putting Rios in the leadoff position, since you need SOMEONE who can get on base and hee seems to be able to do it as well as getting an extra "at bat" hitting in the #1 position. It willl also help if Overbay can continue out of the slump he's been in. I still say that Gibbons minmanages the pitching staff, unaware as when to pull his starters. He is the bihhest negative on this team and until he goes, this team will have difficulty moving up. Thank goodness the Sox got swept by the Rays.

Cole H. from Toronto, Canada writes: Rolen a "cancer" I've never heard that...but uhhh sure. He argued with Larry Bowa in Philly - who is, to put it nicely, a known hot head & he had a dispute with Tony LaRussa - who to put it nicely is a man with poor judgement & fancies himself a baseball genius. I've never heard anything about him having problems w/ any of his teammates.
Why not let Rolen play ball for this team & see what he's got.- Posted 28/04/08 at 9:23 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: Quick stat for everyone to mull over. Since 2002 here are the number of wins it has taken a team to win the A.L Wildcard: 99 (02), 95 (03), 98 (04), 95 (05), 95 (06) and 94 (07). If those numbers hold up this year, it will mean the Jays will need to play the following the remainder of the season (wins in parenthsis): .647 (99), .640 (98), .632 (97), .625 (96), .618 (95), .610 (94) and .603 (93).
Not sure about you guys, but considering this team hasn't won more than 5 in a row for a few years, I can't imagine them playing .600 ball unless something drastically changes.- Posted 28/04/08 at 10:25 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Robin of the Hood from hammatown, Canada writes: Bobby S makes a good point.
The Jays wins since 02 have been 78(02), 86(03), 67(04), 80(05), 87(06), 83(07). The Jays inability to put together win streaks of greater than 3 or 4 games along with their ability to go on 4-6 game losing streaks is what keeps them from being competitive. This years Jays look like the Jays of the past two years, but its a long season and anything can happen. Hopefully with the return of Rolen and the lineup change, things will turn around for the Jays.- Posted 28/04/08 at 11:42 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dwide Schrude from Canada writes: Bobby S,
Your statistics don't lie, but you have to admit, it's tough for any team to go on a six game win streak when they're up against two powerhouse clubs like Tamba Bay and the Royals. I mean, it's not like they lost 5 of 6 to two of the perrenially worst teams in baseball or anything....
Jays fans are the new Leafs fans. They lose six straight but the one win in the last week indicates a complete turnaround and now we'll the cup/ALCS/World Series.- Posted 28/04/08 at 1:01 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Knowledge is True Opinion from Canada writes: Chicken littles? There are always fewer comments on the weekend. Hence the gap.
It's about time the other team gave away the game. Jessie pitched well but they were still patheitc. Errors and bone head plays sunk the Royals not the Blue Jays bats.
Don't get my wrong I'm glad they won, but this was still a pathetic effort. This team is horrible to watch right now. Win or loose.
I'm still watching though.- Posted 28/04/08 at 1:10 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: Dwide, it looks like the one common trait ALL Toronto sports fans can share right now is pessimism. Our hockey team sucks rocks, and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. Our basketball team can only make the playoffs because of the conference they play in, and last but not least our baseball team can't beat two of the worse teams in the league, and are hitting less than .200 with RISP, but we're all supposed to 'hold on' and just 'wait it out'.
At what point do we overtake Chicago as the 'loveable losers'. I'm moving to Boston :-)- Posted 28/04/08 at 1:18 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

The secret to living in Toronto and following sports is simple, you have to follow a sport that isn't in Toronto. My three favourite sports are NFL football, boxing and F1 racing. I also might start to follow tennis, NASCAR and Aussi rules football if the current string of awful Toronto teams continues.
Cheers.- Posted 28/04/08 at 1:24 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
