  1. Rich Allenby from Toronto, Canada writes: Finally, some honesty about how the Habs have been playing. Speaking of little girls, this little youtube documentary on Kovalev says it all - just brilliant.

  2. brad maddigan from Canada writes: Powerplay numbers are a little misleading as Habs had several PP's in the 3rd period of game 1 when the game was out of hand, and they chose not to try to run up the score. Game 3 is a different matter, and yes the 1st line has to be better. Expect a different game tonight, much like the 1st game where Habs come out flying.
  3. CD W from Canada writes: Maybe he could be traded to women's team, they need a little help, and dalton is handing out sex changes in ontario.
  4. Barney Rubble from Canada writes: is it plekanec rhymes with mechanic or plekanec rhymes with sneak a peek?
  5. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: More programmed chauvinistic comments coming from the male dominated world of sports.....He couldn't say...I played like a beginner or little boy...has to be feminine reference to be truly degrading.
  6. David Langan from Canada writes: Hmm... and has the NHL checked the demographics lately?
  7. Andrew Perry from halifax, Canada writes: Hayley Wickenheiser would like a word..
  8. Greg King from Halifax, writes: R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: More programmed chauvinistic comments coming from the male dominated world of sports.....He couldn't say...I played like a beginner or little boy...has to be feminine reference to be truly degrading.

Yes! I was hoping I would read a comment along these lines. The Globe and Mail discussions never disappoint.
  9. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Won't be long now . . . those inflicted with Gender Victimits will be here, soon, slamming these comments and the entire male gender.

Then . . . someone will point out that females play hockey, too; this -- you would think -- would have an effect on the "discussion," but it won't.
  10. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Greg King: Looks like RM made "my point" before I did !

"The Globe and Mail discussions never disappoint." YES.
  11. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Greg King: . . . Next, we will be lectured about "the demands of patriarchy".

    Won't be long.
  12. David Linton from Canada writes: Andrew Perry from halifax, Canada writes: Hayley Wickenheiser would like a word..

She is NOT a little girl....
  13. David H from Calgary, Canada writes: Oh give it a break! He is playing like a little girl, get over it. I hate this Orwellian society we are forced to live in these days. Go Habs Go!
  14. Michael Bowen from Halifax, Canada writes:
So, what many of you seem to be saying is that you don't see that such a statement is a sexist comment? And that you agree that making references of that sort is acceptable in the 21st century?

    Interesting. Sad, but interesting.

Ahh well, you'll die out sooner or later.
  15. Rob C from Kettleby, Canada writes: He sounds like Dieter: "Now is de time on Shprockets ven ve donce - Touch my monkey!"
  16. John E. Boy from Canada writes: You're all missing the point. Plekanec did play like a little girl. Sexist has nothing to do with it.
  17. Dr. Sartor from Victoria, Canada writes: R. M. from Regina, you are quite right. "He couldn't say...I played like a beginner or little boy...has to be feminine reference to be truly degrading."

Shame on journalist Tim Wharnsby for calling Plekanec's comment "refreshing".
  18. nigel martin from Canada writes: In my view he has not been playing like a little girl, nor like a little boy. He is being overly hard on himself. His corner game has been consistently agressive; he just hasn't had the shots and his passing has been off. I think that he is also protecting his linemates, both of whom, in the last two games, have underplayed more than him. I expect then all to bounce back, now that the cloak of invincivibility against the Bruins has worn out. You need more than a little luck to win 13 in a row against the same team and the Habs definitely had their share of luck during that run. Now, they know that they will have to work for each victory.
  19. Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: sounds like you have more of an issue with the G and M editorial staff who chose to make this the headline - certainly grabbed my attention AND we all knew what he meant regardless of its possible sexist intent

just out of curiosity do you also think "throws like a girl" is also sexist? more often than not the way one throws a ball is influenced by one's gender
  20. Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: Go after those pesky B's tonight Pleks. Play like a man. GO HABS GO
  21. Mike Mike from Canada writes: I think Amnesty International and UN Human Rights Committee need to get involved and file a complaint on behalf of all women of the world.

Damn Plekanec, I always liked you but you turn out to be such a chauvinist male pig I don't know how I can possible continue to cheer for you and Habs.
  22. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: Go after those pesky B's tonight Pleks. Play like a man. GO HABS GO '

    F&ckin' eh! Best comment yet.
  23. Placido Durango from The Heart of Hell, Canada writes: It's very regrettable that the player had to resort to sexist and age-ist stereotypes to characterize his underwhelming performance. Perpetuating the view that little girls are not up to the standard of play in professional hockey is bigotry, pure and simple.
  24. Roberto Calvario from B-Dot, Canada writes: Plekanec should take it all back and say he played like a dog...oh-oh that will enrage the dog lovers out there. What the heck, he played like a Leaf with a no-trade clause.
  25. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Roberto Calvario from B-Dot, Canada writes: What the heck, he played like a Leaf with a no-trade clause.

Now THERE is a comparison we can all live with.
  26. David H from Calgary, Canada writes: Bigotry? Well, when we see a woman playing in the NHL then your point might have some validity. Of course if will never happen, along with the NFL, NBA and MLB. Facts are facts, not bigotry.
  27. Andrew Bisson from Ottawa, Canada writes: His comment is insulting to women hockey players only in that they would play better and tougher than Plekanec and some of the other Habs players that seem to be play tougher at home. A first line like theirs will not bring the cup home...sorry.
  28. david s from Montreal, Canada writes: Geez people, it doesn't take much to get your knickers in a twist does it? If he had said he played like a woman that would be sexist and I would agree with you. But he didn't say that and everybody should calm down a little. Except Plekanec (english announcers rhyme it with mechanic, the rds guys give it a 'ch' sound at the end which is probably more accurate).
    Go Habs.
  29. Chadwick Minh from Canada writes:
    Hey, Plekanec!
    You go, girl!
  30. John E. Boy from Canada writes: To Chadwick Minh: Great comment, you made me laugh out loud! :)
  31. craig fister from Canada writes: Yeah! Here’s to RM and Dr Sartor and Michael Bowen ... you go girl (boy)!!! ... you are all correct!! How could anyone ever say something so terrible!!! ... and I was so pleased with your comments that I shared them with my family ... however, now my young son upon hearing what you said, became very upset, and asked what you have against little boys – after all, he can play hockey!! ... and then my daughter who is a beginner, hasn’t stopped crying, and has vowed to never put on a pair of skates again!! Then I get to Bowen’s comments, and shared them with my wife, who just lost it ... she is still locked in the bathroom weeping ... I guess you had no idea that her uncle was cursed with a “can’t-wait-until-you-die” by a right-thinking person for commenting on a buoy that became entangled with his fishing line, and then died the following week ... but please, don’t let that prevent you from sleeping at night!!! It had to be done!! I know that is it tough, but thank you for standing up for the little guy (girl) ... the world cannot put up with these kinds of insensitive comments any longer! So I suggest that anyone reading these posts start by sending your comments or thoughts to these wonderful champions of speech for approval, so that the rest of us Neanderthals don’t inadvertently say, read, or think anything so terrible again!! And once you have rid the world of this plague, then maybe you can start work on getting people to dress better. Can you believe I saw a person the other day wearing brown shoes, a black suit and white socks!! ... I know Mr Bowen, I did reach for the “you’ll die out sooner or later” come-back ... but then he called me a person-who-prefers-persons-of-the-same-sex!! Can you believe it!!
  32. alex just a canadian from Canada writes: for all those that want to make this political, sexism whatever else you want then lets take the facts on his comment.

1--no bodychecking in female hockey (yes or no) simple question no maybe's

2.--he states he has to be more physical and not be afraid of the hits again (yes or no)

3--now does his statement make sense, most here seem to be on moral patrol. probably could have used better words but the point was clear, you want to beat the bruins or anybody else you have to pay the price. In the NhL physical play is part of the game. Can we now get back to hockey please.
  33. D K from Canada writes: Still better than playing like a Leaf with a no trade clause.
  34. Michael Bowen from Halifax, Canada writes: Intelligent comment Craig. Your parents must be very proud. Talk about not getting it.
  35. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: While I am no mysogynist, I am afraid I have to agree with David H from Calgary...the overtly politically correct mob has swung the pendelum too far.

A truly strong and confident society is one that can laugh at itself, and Plekanic's comments were obviously said in a humourous way.

    Relax people...
  36. Simon Kiss from Canada writes: Whatever. He's clearly a misogynist. But aren't most NHL players?
