  1. Rob C from Canada writes: Man, I can't stand Red Fisher! Even in print his sour attitude comes through loud and clear. Does he EVER say anything positve?? - I am so glad he is off Hockey night in Canada and that I live in Toronto.... He is splendidly isolated....How does he type and wave those pom poms at the same time?...Red: Retire already, you annoying old geezer.
  2. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Two comments here...

    1) Red Fisher is a complete class act. All sports journalists in this country should have to spend a month learning the trade from this guy...

    2) RDS outdraws CBC in the Habs-Bruins series .... HA HA !
  3. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Who knows?

Perhaps if the CBC had listened to 'whiners' or 'whingers' like us ... say 2 months ago... Their sponsors might be reaching more Canadian households these days...

    Thus, making more money...

Oh, the irony... I'm larfing out loud!
  4. Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Red Fisher is a legend for sports fans, for the players and basically anybody who loves the game. He's great because he's honest in his writing.

CBC normally garners audiences in the 1 million range during the first round of the playoffs which rises to around 2 million by the Cup finals. The mighty leaf generally draw between 2 and 2.5 mln during the playoffs.

The Habs drew a total of ~2.7 mln for the first game of the first round. Hmmm, sure looks like the Habs draw more....

Wonder if CBC will continue with their party line next season....or better yet, will the G&M continue sticking their head in the sand when it comes to the Habs.
  5. Kyle H from Ottawa, Canada writes: Many Habs fans have tuned the CBC out due to the shabby way they have treated the Canadiens and Canadiens fans ever since Dick Irvin retired. A couple years ago the CBC didn't give a lick about the Habs... the only time they bothered to show Montreal was when they would happen to be playing another Canadian team, especially the Maple Leafs. So why should Habs fans all of a sudden care about the CBC now after the way we've been ignored for several years? Sorry but they lost me, and apparently many others, to RDS which offers a far better service with all games available in HD and better commentators... well at least Pierre Houde, I could live without his sidekick Yvon though. Looks good on the CBC that a specialty channel with only 20% of the national distribution can beat it in ratings.

RDS = Canada's best hockey station, broadcasting Canada's team!
  6. Joe Dirt from Canada writes: A Quebec TV station gets good ratings for a Quebec hockey team while the station that shows to the rest of the country doesn't do quite at well, but not poorly.

Why is this such a surprise?
  7. Celine Brown from Canada writes: Red Fisher is a terrible, terrible 'writer.'

His prose desperately needs an editor.

This guy should have retired long ago.

His longevity is really due to the fact he toils in a sports department where many of the other reporters and writers are just as bad.
  8. Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: I've been reading Red Fisher for years. A great hockey mind and an entertaining scribe.
  9. Granger Cooley from Fonthill, Canada writes: Wow Houston...no word about TSN, "the HOME of hockey" bumping marquee hockey games for golf and sending viewers back and fro between hockey games on their channels... that's the kinda thing you'd devoted a column to if it were CBC.
  10. Swifty J from Mtl, Canada writes: Pat, the Habs have more fans and draw a larger total audience than the Leafs, but that's irrelevant to the CBC's bean counters when at least half the viewers are locked up by a competing network. Anybody outside Quebec who wants to see more Habs games on CBC in the regular season can thank RDS if they don't get their wish.
  11. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Wow, the CBC should have thought twice before writing off the Habs years ago...

HNIC is about the only show that makes the CBC any money... Now, that the Leafs are admittedly pathetic and fans are tuning onto RDS and other stations, I wonder if the CBC programs that nobody ever watched will start to get cut...

Is this the beginning of the end for the CBC, I wonder?
  12. Cassandra from Ottawa from Canada writes: What were the RDS figures for the Sens/Pens contests?

Some Sens fans who feel orphaned by CBC have gone the RDS route too.
