  1. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Well done, Flames !
  2. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: What a rush by Iginila on the third goal.

Not sure we will see the same two teams tomorrow night.... SJ looked jumpy at the start of the game and gave up two quick goals..... Kipper stood on his head the rest of the game.

Great game to watch though.... both later games were good games... I need more TV's.

    Cheers
  3. boom boom from Canada writes: Hoo haa, this should be fun. Sharks looked real frustrated at the end. But they'll be back. At least they're playing, eh Nucks fans?
    Go Flames.
  4. M Poland from Calgary, Canada writes: Good to see us play Flames hockey for the win tonight. We'll have to be a little more physical tomorrow!
  5. Nicolas Perrot from Ottawa, Canada writes: Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: I need more TV's.

I should send you a pic of my setup. I predict my wife will leave me in a few weeks. :-)

Great physical game and nifty plays. Sharks never gave up but Calgary held on.

    Go flames.
  6. Ed L from Canada writes: Now we move on to the next game. Go Flames Go!
  7. garlick toast from Canada writes: go flames.flames and habs in the final, bettman would barf.
  8. George S from Toronto, Canada writes: garlick toast I agree, wouldn't that be a kick in the head if it were an all Canadian final. Hope my Habs get by Boston. Great game Calgary!
  9. P Scott from Canada writes: They out-play San Jose most of the game and that's "stealing one"?

Flames get no respect I tell ya... no respect.
  10. John - from BC Interior, Canada writes: Certainly not the outcome I wanted, but then there is always the Kiprusoff factor to deal with. Game two will be a different story unless Kipper stands on his head again.

Kiprusoff is a cuss word in my house.

    Go Sharks!!
  11. J M from Superduperhockeyville, Canada writes: I don't really follow hockey, but where is the story on how Toronto did last night? I mean, the Leafs are Canada's team and a perennial favourite. Why are they wasting the space on Calgary?
  12. Howard Beale from Canada writes: J M, not to worry. The CBC is doing a special tonight on how Toronto would have done against each of the 16 teams that made the playoffs.
  13. Dan Radu from Canada writes: I'm suprised with all this talk of Kipper and 'stealing one.

The Flames really took to physically pounding these guys. Phaneuf got under their skin and Iginla showed why he might be the best captain in the NHL.

This ain't over though. This will be a great series.
  14. Rafael Lopez from Calgary, Canada writes: GO FLAMES GO!
  15. Sean O'Reilly from Canada writes: Flames get out played and win.

Can the flames.....sorry, can kipper pull the off the upset.
  16. Kevin Dooley from Canada writes: I watched 2 games last night. There was a snore fest in the east between Ottawa and Pittsburgh, and there was an exciting game in the west between Calgary and San Jose. Both the western teams played with passion and speed, both eastern teams played like it was mid-November and the result didn't really matter. In fact, looking at the teams in the playoffs, all of the eastern conference matchups look like they'll be dull, and all of the western ones look great. I wonder if the Habs will have been lulled to sleep by the time they finally meet the Flames in the final.
  17. Mike W from Calgary, Canada writes: Nice work, Flames!

Flames did enough to win, they came out ready and played a good road game. In a post yesterday I said their top three of Iggy, Kipper and Phaneuf had to be at the top of their game to win. Well they were.

Sean O'Reilly, I know you didn't watch the game. You don't know what you are talking about. Didn't you say San Jose in 4 yesterday? What is it now, San Jose in 5? You're a joke.
  18. Alex M from Canada writes: haven' watched western conference hockey in a while... wow, what an excellent game that was. both teams really wanted it. You can really tell that the Flames have confidence in their Kipper. Let's hope they can keep it up.
  19. Tim Henry from Calgary, Canada writes: Sean O'Reilly from Canada, being that angry is no way to go through life. Pull yourself together, grinder. The Flames didn't steal this game they wanted it more (regardless what Hrudy says) and deserved the win, although they were on their heels the last 3 minutes or so. Iginla made Campbell look like little girl. Good way to start. Is it just me or does Kelly Hrudy really dislike the Flames?
  20. Andrew E from Canada writes: Flames payed a great game, but thanks God for the Kipper, because the defence were sieves....
  21. B Fulsom from Menlo Park, United States writes: Tim Henry, what game were you watching? Aside from two early goals and a lucky break with the net off the moorings, Calgary had no offensive presence. They were outshot almost 2-to-1. Kipper can't stop 40 every night. If the Sharks can keep pouring it on, they'll turn this series around.
  22. Jude Hannaford from Canada writes: Tim Henry, I don't think that Hrudey dislikes the Flames I believe it to be opposite. I took it as he might be being hard on them because he expects more from a team that should have won it's division this year. However none of that really matters. They went out and accomplished what any road team in a seven game series needs to do. Win game one, with a chance to take a 2 zip lead into the home barn where I'm sure the Sea of Red will be out in full force.

Habs and Flames in the final

    Habs in 6

    Vive Les Canadiens
  23. Jake ---- from Canada writes: I watched until it was 3-1 and the Flames looked great. I think if Kiper can stand on his head this team should have a great chance at beating SJ. Iginla looked like a man on a mission last night.
  24. Mike W from Calgary, Canada writes: Tim Henry, I find Hrudy to be quite fond of Calgary. I believe, he lives here...not sure though. Most times he'll be in the Flames corner, but nobody is better than his Sharks. His loyalty and bias towards the Sharks has always been there. I was listening to his comments last night just thinking, "Was he watching the same game as me?". I found the entire CBC broadcast crew to be anti-Flames except for Simpson.

At times the Flames got pinned in, but other times they had the Sharks pinned in. While Kipper did make some great saves, a lot of his shots were weak and from the outside where he can make easy saves. The Flames kept the Sharks to the outside for the entire game but the last five minutes.
  25. David H from Calgary, Canada writes: Isn't Joe Thorton the most frustrating player in the league? He is arguably one of the most complete players around, yet he is unable to step it up for the playoffs. He seems to lack the passion and drive a player like Iginla has, hard to figure. Boston got rid of him for exactly this reason, his lackluster play in the post season. I hope he is not on Team Canada for the Olympics, he is dead weight.
  26. Michael Peters from Toronto, Canada writes: As a rabid Canucks fan, I am totally green with envy and I'm not too proud to say it. Gad it must be nice to have a captain like Iggy or Sakic. You know, guys that step it up when it matters.

    Go Flames!
  27. boom boom from Canada writes: After one game of putting up with the banal CBC commentary, especially from Maclean and Hrudy, its back to listening to the great Peter Maher on radio and muting CBC. Again.
Go Flames, make it 2-0 tonite!
  28. True North from The Free West, Canada writes:
I have to admit, I thought the Flames would be outclassed but they were not intimidated.

Moreover, the Sharks looks like they were "squeezing the stick" for most of the first period.

I don't know if the Flames will win the series, but I'm less certain they'll go out in five.
