B.J. Ryan pitches in rehab appearance

Associated Press

DUNEDIN, Fla.

Toronto Blue Jays closer B.J. Ryan pitched one inning in his second rehab appearance for Class A Dunedin on Monday.
Two days after his first appearance in a minor league game, Ryan struck out one batter and threw 12 pitches, seven for strikes.
"You see that finish line and want to get back with the club," said Ryan, "But you keep putting your work in until they let you know something."
Ryan also threw 10 pitches in the bullpen. He said he doesn't know when he'll pitch next.
"It was a lot better than last time out. I made some better pitches and moved the ball around better."
Ryan, who signed a $47 million, five-year contract as a free agent after the 2005 season, went 0-2 with a 12.46 ERA with three saves last season before his injury. The year before, he saved 38 games in 42 chances with a 1.37 ERA.
Left-hander Gustavo Chacin, out because of a left shoulder injury, started for Dunedin against Ft. Myers. He went two innings allowing four runs and seven hits while walking one, striking out three and hitting a batter. It was his first appearance since a rehab start last August 2, with Triple-A Syracuse.
Righty Armando Benitez pitched a perfect inning following Ryan.
