BUFFALO, N.Y. The Canadian Football League Hamilton Tiger-Cats attempted to pull a fast one Tuesday, announcing on their Web site plans to play the Buffalo Bills in a game one half NFL rules, the other CFL at Orchard Park in June.
April Fools.
"We actually got a few people going with this one this year, so we're pleased with that," said Tiger-Cats owner Bob Young, who came up with the idea.
It was the latest in what's become an annual string of April 1 pranks that, in 2006, had the team playing games on a barge touring U.S. cities along the Great Lakes.
Anyone clicking on a link Tuesday to buy tickets for the game against the Bills was directed to a page with the words, "APRIL FOOLS!" in big red letters.
Ticats spokesman Rom Halverson said the team received a few calls from curious fans, but noted many have become accustomed to Young's annual prank.
The prank was well-timed after the Bills, two months ago, announced they'll play an annual regular-season game and three preseason games at Toronto against an NFL opponent starting this year and running through 2012.
Young said it was all in good fun, and an attempt to draw attention to two teams, an hour's drive apart, who share a passionate fan-base.
