  1. Dani Ho from Toronto, Canada writes: I think Ms Pelosi needs to get a life. She is outspoken ... but with the power of the House of Representatives she has done nothing politically to advance the Democratic Party with a sitting duck president who is as popular as Pee Wee Herman (my apologies to using Pee Wee since he's not responsible for the deaths of 4000 people).

Pelosi is just plain foolish and I think the Dems were far too eager to promote a woman instead of electing the most worthy House member to lead them.

Think about it ... it's OK to speak out against China, but you won't boycott the Olympics since "that would hurt the athletes"? So you're more interested in winning medals than making a statement about oppression? Where was that rhetoric back in 1980 when Moscow won the rights to hold the Olympics? The US is nothing but a crock ... and France (and their leader) is just as bogus. (Sarkozy is also a crock with his flip-flopping to polls, but that's another issue.)
  2. Artimus Kantanquer from Yellow Knife, Canada writes: Unfortunately, Ms. Pelosi has fallen victim to CCP deceptions. The most important reason for every nation to avoid Beijing is to make the minority rule government understand they are no longer operating in a vacuum. The world cannot and should not tolerate a government that tramples on Human Rights and props up puppet governments in Burma, Sudan and Tibet. Chinese suppression of religious freedom in Tibet is the result of Mao's destructive Cultural Revolution that destroyed thousands of Tibetan temples and Buddhist artifacts. Until China demonstrates their acceptance of Human Rights standards defined in the document they signed: United Nations Declaration of Human Rights - they should be left to celebrate their Olympics by themselves.
  3. BadaBing BadaBoom from Milan, writes: Look people ! I think you are forgetting why the World is wishy-washy on the whole "Boycott the Olympics" thing. Anyone talking loudly about it is simply spewing bombastic rhetoric. This goes far, far, far beyond human rights !!!!! Believe it or not. Here's why:

China holds 1.3 trillion dollars of US currency reserves. They are literally holding the World's economy in the palm of their hands. With the US economy in recession and the US dollar crumbling, if China was to dump their US currency reserves for either gold or the Euro, the US economy and currency would collapse !!! And that my friend is going to drag just about half the World down with it.

So do you wonder why the US is not even hinting at boycott ? And believe me the rest of the Western world knows this as well. They never thought twice about the Moscow Olympics in 1980 as it held no economic cloud on any of the world.
  4. Jim Sentance from Canada writes: If you people are so committed to the cause of human rights in China and Tibet, why not opt for action that hurts you instead of making Olympic athletes your sacrificial lambs.

Boycott Chinese goods, lobby Canadian businesses to stop doing business in China, push our government to put some sort of trade embargo in place - the kind of thing we fought apartheid in South Africa with.

Or is it more comfortable for you to ruin the lives of athletes who've been training for years for this?
