A roster change

Globe and Mail Blog Post

Darrick Martin will soon be the newest member of the Toronto Raptors coaching staff. The popular -- if seldom used -- point guard will be named a basketball development consultant with the club in the coming days. Martin is expected to be waived to make room for Linton Johnon, a journeyman wing player who the Raptors will be signing to a 10-day contract. He was in Toronto this afternoon for a physical examination and will be added to the roster once Martin clears waiver.

Johnson is 6-foot-8 small forward who has played parts of[amp]nbsp; four seasons with five NBA teams after going undrafted out of Tulane University in 2004. His usefulness to the club would be defending opposing team's wings, something the Raptors have struggled with a times this season.

Martin is in his 13th NBA season, his last three with the Raptors. Martin has appeared in 17 games this season.

Prior to signing with the Raptors Johnson signed two 10-day contracts with the Pheonix Suns. He appeared in six games averaging 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds a game.
