McCarty to make season debut Friday

Associated Press

DETROIT — Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says veteran Darren McCarty will make his season debut with Detroit on Friday.

Holland tells Booth Newspapers that the 35-year-old forward told him he's ready to go for Friday's home game against the St. Louis Blues.

McCarty has been nursing rib injuries since the Red Wings recalled him March 7 from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. He'd been assigned to Grand Rapids on a conditioning loan after being signed last month to a one-year contract.

McCarty played in Detroit from 1993 to 2004. He helped the Red Wings win Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
