Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: The playoff plan reveals itself after the past two games. Sleep through 50 minutes, let the goalie flop and flounder all over the ice - hope to keep it within three or four goals and then wake up and blow the other team apart.
Definitely beats a solid plan of dominating a team throughout 60 minutes.
Best defensive pairing was during a line change - Vochenkov and Lee with the top line.
I'm not a Spezza fan but I give him credit for picking the puck out of the net for Volchenkov's first goal.- Posted 25/03/08 at 10:20 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

The Archer from Canada writes: Although I appreciate Gerber's enthusiasm in sliding laterally across his crease.... but enough already...I keep expecting him to end up in the corners! Some great goals tonight...and Lee looked confident and competent.

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Didn't see the game but watched the hi-lite package.
One suggestion might be to see if Lee feels confortable wearing goalie pads.
Anyway... good win.... with all the three point games tonight that almost puts out Buffalo and Toronto.
Still liking Washington.

Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: Scot - agree with your suggestion regarding Lee.
Which brings up the bigger question - which team really looks thristy to drink from Stanley's beaker. I am a Sens supporter but I must say Pitt and the Habs look very thirsty in the East. Out west - my thinking is the Flames and Sharks.- Posted 25/03/08 at 11:43 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Howard Young from Canada writes: Okay, now that I'm over the initial shock of it (I just about choked on my supper as I was listening to the radio). I'm glad for the win, but I could do without the roller coaster ride. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kudos to Mr. Lee, you just made Redden expendable, healthy or not. Way to step up! I thought it was good of Murray to play him with different D-men all night and not just one pairing. Dean's shorty was a real momentum shift for the Sens. Extremely happy for Volchekov, who got the go ahead goal. He's been working hard, so it's nice for him to be the hero. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Come on Sens show me some hunger in your next game with the Sabres! You know they are going to come out blazing, if just for pride and nothing else. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Evem Leaf fans who hate the Sens have to be a bit happy about this one since it stopped Buffalo from getting an additional 2 points. Too bad about the Bruins.

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Sigh.... third time a charm right?
Trying to respond Mariposa... but the Globe obviously didn't like what I was trying to say.
I am still not sold on the Habs.... I like Pittsburgh and Washington in the east.... and you can never discount Brodeur.
The west has multiple favourites including Anaheim, Dallas, SJ, Detroit and Calgary (only if they get seeded third).
Two of those teams will line up against each other in round 1...... so my choices will wait until we see the final match ups.
still.... I will be cheering for all the Canadian teams that make it.... my next underdog choice is Edmonton.... go Oil.

Arron D from Stan's Home, Canada writes: PC, the Leafonauts aren't here because they are still steamed that Buffalo let that game get away from them. They really pushed the Sens around. Ottawa would have agood rush and then spend like 4 minutes trying to clear the mess around their own net.
But I guess, despite their best efforts, no Redden in the line up was enough to get them through.
Lee looked spectacular... We had to sacrifice a year of this kid for Redden? Just about enough to make me hate Murray, he definitely looks good.- Posted 26/03/08 at 6:50 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave Morris from Ottawa, writes: The Sens will be very dangerous in the last five games as they pour on the goals. The fact that they will face traditional opponents in Buffalo, Boston, Montreal and Toronto will show us what the Senators are made of. When the playoffs start, past sins are forgiven. Alfredsson is truly amazing. Gerber is not as bad as his critics say.

Mike Quinlan from Gatineau, Canada writes: Was looking a little dicey, but the Sens pulled off a must win with a bit of style. I agree about keeping Lee. He looks real good, but the bigggest thing we need is a rookies enthusiasm. Murray made the team a lot older this year. Frankly I think that has been part of the problem in the second half. There might be more character and professionalism, but its been seemingly tougher to get everyone on the same page. I for one miss what Comrie brought to the team last year-- a good guy with heart and the desire to play 3 sizes bigger than he was. Guess we will know soon enough if the current edition is a real playoff type team or not.

Mike M from Toronto, Canada writes: Wow - Shoalts covering the Sens instead of the Leafs, even though the Leafs wer also playing and theoretically still alive in the playoff hunt. Looks like the G&M has belatedly discovered that focussing 100% of their attention on Canada's worst hockey team is unlikely to stoke fan interest for the leaf-less playoffs.

Fester Boyle from Bert's, Barbados writes: Great comeback and a character win. The Sens showed a lot of heart to pull this one off. Finally, we got to see Lee play in the majors and he was very good. Redden can take his time to recover. Buffalo is facing elimination so they will be particularly determined to win Thursday night and the Sens better get ready. I can feel a 6-game win streak coming on. One down and 5 to go. The Sens are the best team in the northeast.

Raymond Lepage from Ottawa, Canada writes: The real question is whether the Sens were that great in the last 8 minutes o whether the Sabres were that bad. Yeah, I'm pleased with the outcome, but the fact remains that once again, the Sens only played for half the game (first period and last ten minutes). Is it so much to ask, I repeat from a previous post, that they put in 60 minutes of consistent work? As for Lee, well he was brilliant... just what the doctor ordered. Let's just hope now that Redden stays home and sees how much his team is way better off without him. Still, though, I'm not convinced that the team has the drive and thirst to go very far this year... not as long as they keep showing up for only half a game...

Howard Young from Canada writes: Raymond, I suspect that it was a little from column A and a little from columb B. For that reason, I'm curious to see how they will come out against Buffalo on Thursday. -------------------------------------------------------- I would prefer to see a sustained work effort, however, at worst it must be a confidence builder to know that even when you're behind you can come back and score more than a few goals. Irrespective of whether Buffalo blew it or Montreal eased off the other night, if the team thinks they have the ability to come back from behind, that belief is beneficial. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Years ago the Senators could never come back from behind to win a game, that was one of the monkeys surgically attached to their back.

Emilio Garazgos from Kanata, Canada writes: I for one am sorry to see the Sabres pretty much eliminated but it does seem fitting that the Sens finished them off, almost like karmic payback for the Sabres having eliminated the Sens from the playoffs a few years ago.
It also seems fitting that the Sabres' Jason Pominville was pivotal in the loss, his mis-play leading to the short-handed goal by McAmmond.
Wasn't it a rookie Pominville who stepped around Alfie and scored the game winner in that playoff game that eliminated the Sens ?
So this is the new Sens strategy, eh ? Lull them into complacency in the first 50 minutes of the game with pitiful play that digs the team into a deep, deep hole and at a point where the opponents are getting ready to celebrate a win and have hit cruise control, HIT 'em! with all jets blazing before they get a chance to figure out what's happening ?
Nyehhhh, I'm not sure it's a good plan. It might work once or twice but I wouldn't count on it as an alternative to working hard for a full 60 minutes. But I suppose I'd be happy to be proven wrong.- Posted 26/03/08 at 12:31 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

sam themacman from Waterloo, Canada writes: I find it laughable when people keep harping on not believing the Habs are for real. Who claimed the first play off spot in the East? The Habs. Who is currently first in the East? The Habs. What team has consistently remained competitive game in and game out, and have played and matured over the season? The Habs. Give me a break people! The Pens have issues in goal, regardless of how Fleury is playing. The Devils are all about Brodeur. Get two goals on them, they rarely come back. The Sens, who knows. No defense, and lousy goal tending, and one functioning line. Not a recipe for success. The Canes are worried because the Caps are breathing down their neck. The Rangers, who knows which team shows up on the ice. The only teams to worry about in the East are the Habs, the Pens, the Devils, and the Rangers, and perhaps the Caps (if they make it). The rest of them are not even worth considering. I am OK with the non-believers in the Habs. But don't be surprised at the outcome. I am wanting to see the Habs win first overall in the East, and that way the other teams in the middle of the pack will devour each other, and I for one hopes that includes the Sens and Pens. They will be so beat up by the end of the first series that it will make it easier for the others, of which I hope the Habs are top of the list. Go Habs!

Robert Lepage from Canada writes: Gordon, I'll apply a bit of your mental grease and come up with a neat little comment for you.
Since your name is Gordon, and the first letter is a G, you are most likely a girl (g for girl). Since your name also starts with G, you're real name is probably georgina, or georgia. You are very insecure so you are probably a teenage girl, maybe 13-14 or so. Given that you support hockey and you are a little girl, you are probably a very ugly girl with no friends and suffer from deep-rooted self-confidence issues from your father calling you an ugly 'censored'. Your father also probably beat you and prohibited you from getting any education whatsoever, which explains your general inability to comprehend s-i-m-p-l-e words. You also probably think yourself nigh flawless (afterall, you do support the best hockey team in the galaxy), so you naturally think your string of logic is perfect. Since I am using the exact same logic you are, then my logic is also flawless.

I for one would like very much to see the Habs keep on doing what they're doing and go far into the playoffs.
Unfortunately, as well as they've been doing of late, they may have to go through the Sens first and aside from the one game recently, they haven't had much luck at that.
One win in a string of losses is obviously an anomaly. Two back-to-back wins might be a coincidence. Three back-to-back wins against the Sens would be an indicator that they might have their number and are capable of mowing them down en route to the finals.
But I will say that if it did come to a showdown between the Habs and the Sens for the East, it would be guaranteed to be an entertaining series, and that's what it's about isn't it ?- Posted 26/03/08 at 5:51 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
