Remparts keep their focus

Canadian Press

The Quebec Remparts put their off-ice issues behind them and laid a beating on the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

Mikhail Stefanovich and Sebastien Trudeau each scored twice as the Remparts hammered Chicoutimi 6-1 Tuesday and took a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-seven Quebec Major Junior Hockey League first-round series.

The Remparts made news for a completely different reason earlier Tuesday. The QMJHL handed a seven-game suspension to Remparts goaltender Jonathan Roy and five for his coach and father, former NHL star Patrick Roy, for their involvement in a brawl in Saturday's game against the Sagueneens.

During the fight, Jonathan Roy bolted across the ice to pound on Bobby Nadeau, his goalie opponent, who offered no resistance. He then gave fans the one-fingered salute before scrapping with another player.

Patrick Roy, who was on the bench during the fight, denied playing any role in the melee, although he appeared to urge on his son with a wave moments before he attacked Nadeau. The league suspended him "prejudicial conduct."

None of that seemed to bother the Remparts Tuesday night, as they scored three times in the first period and never looked back.

Elsewhere in QMJHL post-season action it was: St. John's 6 Acadie-Bathurst 5; Saint John 6 P.E.I. 4; Lewiston 2 Cape Breton 1; Rouyn-Noranda 6 Val-d'Or 1; and Shawinigan 5 Gatineau 1. Baie-Comeau and Rimouski also played.

At Quebec City, Kelsey Tessier and Angelo Esposito also scored for the Remparts, while Felix Petit added three assists.

Maxime Provencher scored the only game for Chicoutimi.

Kevin Desfosses made 33 games for the Remaprts, while Nadeau and Francois Levesque combined for 27 saves for the Sagueneens.
