Vancouver Avatar from Vancouver, Canada writes: Probably to deter the NFL from coming to Canada. This way it solidifies the CFLs market share and will postpone the NFL from putting a team in Ontario. By putting a team in Ottawa, there are fewer football fans with no team to support, and fewer to support the NFL. The CFL will prop up the Ottawa team for a few years until it gets its feet again, because the future of the league depends on it.

Jimmy Stewart from Toronto, Canada writes: I was at two matches of the U20 World Cup in the Frank Claire South-Side and it was HORRIBLE. Poor concessions, steep and handle-less stairs and benches that would make sardines cringe! Not to mention the whole time I felt like the place was going collapse under the weight of the packed house! The CFL in Ottawa will never be successful if they can't get a decent stadium for the fans.

Irish 222 from Ottawa, Canada writes: The $7 million franchise fee is a joke. The CFL should be paying these guys to start up a franchise again in Ottawa. I wish these guys all the luck in the world..but I am not optimistic. The city council yahoos here in Ottawa are much too shortsighted to see what this could do for the city, so they will be more of a hinderance than a help. They have their work cut out for them.

A Leading Edge Boomer from Canada writes: As Jimmy says Frank Clair stadium needs some major improvements. This consortium has the money and the willingness to do just that. As Irish 222 indicated, the city councillors and admin does not have the vision or know how to do so. They need to get out of the way and let the consortium refurbish the stadium. The new franchisees connection to Ottawa football is deep. Mr Shenkman is related to Sam Bergman and David Loeb, Owners of the Rough Riders in their better days. He has residences in Ottawa and England, and is co-owner of Millwall,a soccer team in the English league first division. He recently donated money to build the Shenkman Arts Center in the Orleans ward of Ottawa. John Ruddy played university football with the Carleton Ravens. He is a benefactor of Carleton University and recently donated $5 million to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. While Roger Greenberg was at the press conference concerning the CFL franchise, his cousin Dan Greenberg was across town unveiling a $11 million donation to Ottawa hospitals on behalf of the Greenberg family. Jeff hunt is note for his success in marketing the Ottawa 67's to Ottawa sports fans and families. This group has deep pockets, deep Ottawa roots, and can make a success of the stadium and the team if the citizens and politicians in Ottawa will let them do so.

sidney Goldberg from writes: Congraulations to the new owners, the city of Ottawa and the fans. I hope the new franchise will last 100 years and be operated with much success. The fact Winnipeg will return to the West will be excellant news too. Let's hope the CFL will at some point under Marc Cohon expand to Quebec City, Halifax, Moncton, and Charlottetown. Hockey is Canada's #1 sport but the league is controlled from New York and not appreciating Canada's contribution, so at this point the CFL is Canada's only true sports league. If the city of Ottawa is not willing to build a quality stadium, maybe this new ownership, who are known for their civic contributions will build one and if that means a decent development around the stadium all the more power to them.
