  1. Joel Parkes from Peterborough, Canada writes: Say what you want about Beckham being a movie star or whatever but he is a skilled athlete who has an amazing thread the needle kick that any side would want. I remember seeing him in action at Old Trafford where a mate had given me a seat just three rows from the pitch. I was right in front of the corner and could see the look on the eyes of two defenders who simply would not commit to engaging Beckham as he waited for an opportunity to place one of his trade-mark boots to the front of the goal. They were afraid. It was amazing to see. He's the real deal and I'm glad he's back on the England side even if only to try to prove himself amongst the current crop of hopefuls.
  2. stephen ottridge from vancouver, Canada writes: Gives them a chance to bench John Terry. Story in British press about him parking his Bentley in a handicapped spot for 2 hours and being fined just 60 pounds.
  3. David Gehring from Ottawa, Canada writes: When was the last time England won a World Cup or a European championship in an international tournament? Exactly. Beckham may have been great in the tiny world of English soccer, a world the media loves to glorify, but on the global scene, Beckham and his team were nothing more than speed bumps in the quarterfinals. Oh but his eyes are dreamy, and thats what really counts for his team's chances.
  4. Larfing Outloud from Virgin Islands (British) writes: David Gehring from Ottawa, Canada writes: ".....Oh but his eyes are dreamy,"

"Brokeback" moment for you there Davey?
  5. David Gehring from Ottawa, Canada writes: I was being sarcastic. My point was that his popularity is due more to his looks than his talent. I don't think half his fans even know who Ronaldo or Oliver Kahn are.
  6. Jimmy Savile from Toronto, Canada writes: Mr Gehring: Yes, you're right. Beckham has accomplished nothing. Heck we could put Brad Pitt in the England team based on your theory then hey?
Here's the list of awards haphazardly thrown at Beckham during his career of contributing nothing. ;)

  7. Trevor Young from Toronto, writes: Brad Pitt would definitely bring more testosterone to a side of notorious chokers. Your list of accolades includes a good number of runner up (i.e. non-winner i.e. loser) "awards". I would quickly award this skirt-wearing fellow (Mr. Posh) an award for "best dead-ball kicker from a range of 15-22 yards between 45 and 60 degrees off the goal line"; so if such a narrow scope of skill means he is world class, then I will also rescind on my statement that his wife's breasts are actually made of basketballs. Until then, the soft-spoken-Beck's remains as a 'good' international player, but nowhere near the level of the Ronaldinhos, Messis, Zidanes etc.
  8. bj sutherland from Victoria, Canada writes: I don't particularly like the hype around Beckhan and his Mrs., but also don't want to anything away from a someone who has always seemed a team player, not nasty on the pitch, dedicated to and well spoken about his sport. I'm glad he is getting a chance at his 100th for England.
  9. M Poland from Calgary, Canada writes: Bit of a rant, Jimmy; runners-up is not an achievement. Trevor, I would say grapefruits are more like it. I'm not so sure that Beckham is such a team player [at least early in his career] for he was most definitely selfish in getting thrown out in [was it 1997?] when he kicked that bloke while wanking about face-down on the pitch. I predict that this would be this last appearance for England; I wonder if he'll last the whole game?
