P McLean from Canada writes: So it's ok to use sports as a political tool when awarding these events(how else does Beijing get awarded something like this), but not afterwards? Or did I miss something and these issues didn't exist in 01-02 when the vote took place to have the Olympics there?

But they think to themselves, "they are aetheist, they are socialist, they have a massive centrally planned economy if they have to trod on a few toes in the himalayas for a greater good then that's all right." People looked the other way to curry Stalin's favour, and the Germans-pre August 39. Careful who you get into bed with Euro types...I wonder how they'll feel in the E.U. if their citizens get into a tizzy over the issue? Put them in a tough place.
