The Yankees offensive line is doing a nice job of controlling the game and the only thing of interest now is waiting for the rumoured appearance of Ricky Romero and the guy pinch-hitting for the Blue Jays right now: Travis Snider. Aw, too bad ... the game has just been banged for good by more rain.
A few parting words abpout Snider: The first-round choice from two years ago is still hampered by an elbow injury but he has made nothing short of a statement with his approach at the plate. He was just called out on strikes facing Billy Traber, but assistant G.M. Tony LaCava was raving about him before the game, acknowledging that there's some discussion about where to start him in the minor leagues.
This is the thing with Snider: his bat is way ahead of the other parts of his game, and the Blue Jays are walking a fine line. It wouldn't be in anybody's best interests to have the learning curve associated with his defence and (especially) his work on the basepaths ruin whatever he is on the verge of accomplishing offensively.
LaCava told an interesting story about a conversation he had with the Cleveland Indians G.M. Mark Shapiro regarding Manny Ramirez's progress through the minors, and while he made clear he wasn't comparing Ramirez to Snider, it was an interesting case study in balancing the demands of a players overall development with the readiness of his hitting. But at the same time ... man. Can this kid hit.
Lefty-hitting outfielder Buck Coats is the flavour of the month so far, but he's a butcher in the field.
Still 2-0 and ... Geezus, god! The Blue Jays don't have a hit!
