  1. Brett Vancise from Regina, writes: Russia has emerged as the premier hockey country in the world. Ovechkin and Malkin are the two best players in the league and the likes of Kovalchuk and Datsyuk aren't far behind. Gold medal team in 2010 for sure. Eat your heart out Don Cherry.

Ovechkin are fantastic, but Russia the best hockey country??? well, I went to Torino in 2006 and Russia put all those guys on the ice -- and still got bounced from the medal round by Sweden and Finland; Canada still produces 50 per cent of the NHL and look at the annual MVP contenders -- Crosby, Iginla, Lecavalier, Thornton - still predominantly Canadian
