  1. steve allan from Welland, Ontario, Canada writes: I don't think they wanted to commit big money to an uncertain quantity after the Theodore debacle. It's a very risky move and I'm not sure it's a good one. There's two things that really rattled Habs' fans. One is that they got so little in return for Huet, and two, they traded him to a conference foe. That could come back to haunt them later on this year.
  2. Howard Young from Canada writes: Habs use up goalies like a prostitute uses condoms. Good luck Price, I hope you stand the heat,. It's a pretty hot kitchen for goalies in Montreal.
  3. Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: Atlanta wanted Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn, Chris Higgins and a prospect for Hossa. Gainey did the right thing by saying "no thanks". That's way too much for a rental. Price seems mature for his age, and certainly is the net-minder of the future for the Canadiens. It'll be intersesting to watch Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak, two youngsters at work in the worlds oldest, most successful hockey-mad city. GO HABS GO
  4. Shawn Goldwater from Canada writes: Gainey remembers another rookie goalie named Ken Dryden. Montreal fans take heart.
  5. Dave Morris from Montreal, writes: Montreal's decision to trade Huet may have shocked most of us, but Gainey has shown that he is as meticulous a GM as he was effective a player. Those who question Gainey's moves, like Rivet, Ribeiro, Samsonov, et al, forget that chemistry is as important as talent. All of those players did not fit the plan or the philosophy for the team concept that is fundamental to Canadiens hockey. Gainey has a stockpile of young talent that is unmatched among NHL teams. Price, whose style already evokes Dryden and Roy (and it is possible he might even be better), will be to the Habs what Sidney Crosby is to the Penguins. "Price, who signed a three-year contract prior to the 2007-08 season, was a first-round pick (fifth overall) of the Canadiens in 2005. In 26 games this season, Price (12-9-3) sports a 2.83 GAA and 91 percent save rate." Montreal has always been a team that relies on speed, opportunism, tight defense and exceptional goaltending. With Dryden, Roy, Theodore (in his Hart Trophy year) and now Price, Le Canadien has been and can be a formidable opponent. Gainey and Carbonneau are moving towards a modern version of the traditional Canadiens hockey philosophy. Montreal is probably a year away from being Cup contenders, and Gainey knows this. It was very intelligent of him not to give away the store to get Hossa or Jokinen. Grabovski, Plekanec, and the Kostitsyn brothers will prove him right. Now if they just had a leader on the ice like Jean Beliveau, Serge Savard, Cournoyer, Lafleur, Gainey or Carbonneau were...
  6. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Don Waddel wanted Tomas Plekanac, Andrei Kostitsyn, Chris Higgins and a prospect for a rental player who is a perenially poor playoff performer?

I hope Gainey told Waddel not to let the door hit him on the way out!

Does anyone remember what the Habs gave up to get Huet? Nothing. He was a footnore in the Garon for Bonk deal with LA.

Bob the Builder trades up for the Habs yet again.
