Fedorov joins Ovechkin in Washington

Canadian Press

WASHINGTON — One of the first great Russian NHLers is joining the next one.

The Washington Capitals acquired Sergei Fedorov from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a prospect, uniting the former Hart Trophy winner with Alex Ovechkin.

Fedorov's best years are behind him but he'll now have a chance to play with Ovechkin, who is well on his way to another 50-goal season.

The 38-year-old Fedorov has nine goals and 28 points in 50 games this season. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

Columbus receives defenceman Theo Ruth, who was selected 46th overall by the Caps last year.
