Stampeders bolster offensive line

Canadian Press

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders bolstered their offensive line Friday by signing free-agent tackle Jermese Jones.

The six-foot-six, 335-pound Jones, a six-year CFL veteran, started all 18 regular-season games last season with the Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"Jermese is a veteran that brings a physical presence to our team," said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. "He was a key contributor in Saskatchewan's quest for the Grey Cup last season and will provide experience and depth to our offensive line."

Jones played his college football at the University of Virginia before attending the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp. He joined the CFL's B.C. Lions in 2002, then played four seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before joining the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season.

"I'm very excited to continue my career in Calgary," said Jones. "I know several players on the team and I'm also thrilled to be working with this coaching staff.

"I enjoyed playing in Saskatchewan, but look forward to beginning a new chapter in my career."
